Howdy smart and kind folks! I'm wondering if any of you have found a secure storage solution for your precious microphones (and/or other gear) you are happy with. I've got a very small space which I assume will be a limiting factor, but I'm at the point where I'd feel more comfortable if I could store my collection in a lockable cabinet I could secure to the room somehow. Ideally it would have sufficient room for mics in their boxes or cases, but a few of them come in full flight cases which can get pretty big, so I'll need to consider options that may not cover all of these cases.. Either way, if you've got something you think works well, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks! ps. for example, chessparov .. what do you use to keep your cherished MXL V69 safe and sound?

The first thing that comes to mind is a gun safe that can be bolted to the floor/wall. Most other regular safes won’t be big enough. Not a very convenient solution considering how big and heavy they are but it’s about as secure as you can get.
I’m interested in hearing what others suggest. I’m about there myself.

Inside my pitbulls oversize dog house. Which is inside the alarmed and 2a guarded main studio/facility. Which is located inside a gated property. Which is in a watchfully guarded neighborhood. Which is located in a low crime small town community where everyone has dogs and guns. Seems to work for me. Oh, and I tend to keep all my mics congregated inside pelican style cases that are sequentially numbered so that in case of fires (we have the possibility in my oak / pine forest neighborhood), I can just toss everything in the back of the truck and take off.

The U47 I got to sing through last week lives in a giant safe. You'd need serious equipment to haul it out of there, it's at least 4 feet tall and looks very heavy.

Second the gun safe . I have mine in a walk-in bedroom closet ,yes it was a pain to move in but once there it’s not going anywhere. Mine is also fireproof. There’s plenty of room and the cost wasn’t unreasonable. Edit : just saw the above post and totally agree it will take some serious effort to remove ! But first you have to get by my 197 lb English mastiff lol

I just use tool boxes usually. but it's also behind two key carded fire doors. and then the doors to the build with alarm.

Combination of a gun safe and Bills Pelican cases is probably the best solution. Just add aln insurance gear rider.

Was that a prototype? As for my precious V69, it's safely secure in an ex-fiance's garage. (Really) Inside an armoire, surround by tons of stuff. But no 4 foot U47's. Only hundreds of NOS VF-14 boxes. Klaus has been so busy with that 49 Reissue, that MUST be the reason he hasn't contacted me yet... To make the iconic, KH V69. Chris P.S. Well there are a lot of 45's around the house.

+1 for gun safe, gun lockers, and their pelican/flight cases
Also call the cops on and shame any artist who takes anything. I know a lot of people who’ve had common headphones and utility mics like SM57 stolen. Scum think they can get away with it.

33 is way too young for me John. 45 is even a stretch! (Actually have my eye on a pretty Baby Boomer around my age We'll see!) Inheriting the Olde Jack Benny Radio set up, where he had the moat and crocodiles... Would be great for secure storage. Plus I love animals and they'd love me too. Especially at dinner. Chris

One of the keys to nice storage is buying a bunch of cases at once so they stack nicely and labels nothing worse than digging for that mic that is in an unmarked case at the bottom of the pile.

The easiest solution I’ve found is called defacto 5 star insurance with an established provider.
It’s peace of mind but costs of course. And no good for irreplaceable vintage mics.

As long as you have great documentation and a separate gear rider, otherwise you are capped at $10K under what ever classification your insurance company puts your mics under.

My equipment insurance is separate from my home insurance, it is simply a list of the gear I own - each item has a value, if it is stolen the policy pays out at it's exact insured price, there is zero loss adjusting involved, excess or category capping. The most important aspect for me purchasing insurance is I buy it through a large established insurance broker, never direct with an insurance company. The broker is legally bound for the product they sold you to perform exactly as it says on the tin otherwise you can sue the broker for the same sum for mis-selling the insurance product. The broker deals with the claim - the broker deals with the insurance company. My dad was an insurance broker :-)

I have a bunch of Harbor Freights Pelican knock-off cases. They're fine and much less expensive.
I also have a studio insurance policy for fire and theft.

If Harbour freight had the cases before I bought my stash of Seahorse cases they would be my standard. One of the first CNC projects is going to be building a case I can store all the mic cases. I also have been consulting a guy on a mobile light rig who I just suggested a Pelican Short rifle case for the ETC Smartfader console.
