How about the AEA KU5A or N22 Ribbons, to add to the short list? BTW Bob Ohlsson has posted that the 57/58/545/SM7 effectively "gate" incoming signal... Since it takes a good amount of SPL to move their diaphragms. More of a factor of damping bad room tone, over the pattern. A 441 or M88's pattern is tighter IMHO. Chris

The RCA KU3 I used was a very “pop lead vocal” sounding mic, very forward upper mids.

Any more good "Singer's" jokes? Any more bad ones?
Unless they're too off key! Chris

I've noticed that quality in the classic Shure dynamic mics but I didn't realize that it was tied to the damping qualities of the capsule. The 58, or at least the ones I own, have a unique way of "ignoring" small room tone where an LDC will pick up all the short, low mid reverb and only get worse with compression.

Just learned this by discovering an 'ol Bob O. post. The usual style... Not many words, but profoundly put. Kinda like Yoda! The actual Yoda decided to enter an amateur Standup Comedy contest. He won 1st because no one could... "Touch His Schtick" Chris P.S For the non-Parents/over 20 year olds here... "Can't Touch My Stick" is a huge YouTube hit with the Kids.

With my limited "AE" skills, am gravitating towards usually using conventional dynamic mics for more "punch"/using less Compression. On harder Rock/Soul vocals. Thoughts? Thanks, Chris
