I have a pair of Apple Airpod Pro now. I haven’t been that impressed with spatial or atmos stuff, but I do like the sound quality. The 3D stuff has felt like speakers in a room with a singer up in my face. Kind of boring.
However I did discover one incredible album on Apple Music: Jeff Beck, Wired
It feels like I’m on a thrift store sofa in their backyard shed, their instruments spread around the floor, and simply amazing talent.
The album label says “Dolby audio, lossless, Apple digital Master”, nothing about spatial or atmos. I really don’t understand
Anyone know any other stuff worth checking out?
(I don’t know if this belongs in off topic, figured I’d try here)

right now the immerisive land scape is all over the place. It's the wild west. People are expimenting a lot with it.
Basically there are a lot of bad mixes out there and there are a lot of good ones.
Not sure if you're a new music fan, but Morten Lindberg's stuff is always amazing. I got to hear some tracks of Kristin Bolstad: Tomba sonora in Auro3D(which i still think sounds better for music) and it was amazing.
As for the Label, the "Dolby audio" is Apples label for Atmos. Lossless means that the stereo version, which you should be able to toggle back and forth to, is in a high res format. 24bit and over 44.1k sample. Apple Digital Master just means it passed the encoding process test and was certified by who ever mastered it as doing so.

Awesome thanks for that info!
I listened to it again at the gym today. It took a few minutes to get used to, once a few minutes in.. maaaan! I usually listen to other Jeff Beck early albums in stereo, never took much time to get to know this record until I tried the AirPods. First thing I did was look up and listen to the regular stereo mix, I know it’s a popular album for him, the regular mix is not the same experience at all.

Did a little more research. Ok, that Jeff Beck was originally mixed in Quad. And then remixed/mastered the latest 5.1 surround release in 2016. Here is a review. www.hiresedition.com/review/fusion/jeff-beck-wired.htmlIt makes me think maybe they took that 5.1 surround mix and ran it through their spatial thing as to why no Dolby atmos logo, Instead it’s ‘Dolby audio’? Of course that made me search for other Quad records. Apparently DSOTM is the #1 example made for quad, but Apple doesn’t offer spatial version. Queen tracks Bohemian Rhapsody and Another One Bites the Dust are atmos. Well done of course, worth checking out! Too bad it’s not the whole albums Wild West is the truth, clicking on the track is where you see the atmos logo

Hahaha for the record I thought so too. My teen daughter pestered us all year last year, airpod pro, over and over. A couple weeks after she got them she started stealing my wired earbuds. Turns out that charging is temporary, talking to friends wired is forever. Speaking of wired.. try the atmos version, at least pork pie hat
I triple-dog-dare you!

Listening to a bunch of mixes done in Dolby Atmos in the 'dungeon' of Flux Studios in NYC last Wednesday night was a life-changing experience. I've never heard anything quite like it. Surreal.

So it looks like Atmos is not going to be a fad, right? The headphone compatibility is brilliant.
I guess monitoring setups are going to change a lot in the next few years. Imagine the cost of a 9.1.2 ATC setup! Also, I imagine DAWs will change significantly to accommodate Atmos ergonomically.
Sounds exciting! (Except I'm scared about the costs involved). Say goodbye to your stereo speakers!
We were all on a level playing field with stereo, but now only the big boys can afford to mix, master, and distribute Atmos recordings.

It may not be a fad but it may not become the de facto standard any more than quadraphonic or 5.1/7.1 surround did either.
I wish Vance were a member here to talk about how Atmos can be stereo compatible. Too big a subject for my basic understanding!

You can buy a IK MTM system for fairly sensible money. Or use the MTM's to augment an ATC stereo system (which would be my route) The playing field will be level again in a blink - the project studio market is where the money is, there will be heaps sensible priced ATMOS systems if the format takes off in a very significant way.

Done right it can be awesome, it’s the sound bar thing that kinda sucks, well sound bars suck in general but the Atmos disappoint because they are over hyped compared to what they deliver.

I agree about most of the soundbars. They seem to be simple stereo soundbars with some alleged psycho-acoustic software that just throws stuff out of phase. Makes me feel queasy when I hear them. But it's better at the top end of the market. I've got the Sennheiser which has 13 speakers and gives (from the best I can tell) a 5.1.4 implementation using bounces off surfaces in the room. The thing is huge and weighs north of 50 pounds. Our room geometry isn't the best for this system, but it still sounds pretty good. Nothing like discrete speakers around the room, but much more open than stereo, with some nice surprises coming from top and rears.

My experience was with a friend at NFM we were there so he could look at dishwashers, but has we approached the display he admitted he was Interested, I admitted amusement. No Sennheiser, the 3 we auditioned just sounded wrong, phase incoherent hell. As we walked away my friend asked what I thought the problem was. “Math is hard” was the only easily understood reply I could think of. I mean these sounded bad, NS10 left. JBL 302 right and Genelec center as soured system bad.
