Just those things you patch in and it makes things sound more musical by default. What are your favorites?

Echoing Eric, 1066s w/ or w/o EQ engaged, even at line level. Also, Avedis E27 EQs do something special to the signal.

Lately the OTO BIM and BAM. Magic. Both hardware inserts with the BIM going back in via a Chandler TG2 to Flock Audio Patch to Speck viaFaders on two channels. Blend to taste but really, really cool to move around in a song.
Iron Age Audioworks Portia is great when you need some vibe.
Overall, I would say the Strymon Big Sky has made the most impact for the past year or so on keys. We've been running a Strymon Dig -> Earthquaker Avalanche -> Big Sky -> RNDI-2 -> CAPI FD312 Heiders. Activate and blend to taste.
Ensoniq Mirage has exploded in great ways through that chain for lead parts lately.

Mix buss comp. Even just a little, and things just translate better. I used a Drawmer '69 forever (and it still sounds great) but added an RND 5254 recently.

I only do rough mixes for determining what instruments and arrangements I am going to use but, having an Audioscape buss comp inserted on a Silver Bullet on the mix buss sure makes my heart happy.

Re: betterfication…In addition to to light TG2 usage on as much as possible, I have a sweet tooth for the RND transformer sounds. My fave is probably the 5033 eqs which have no full bypass; quick and easy to patch in for a little overall signal hug. Hendyamps Michelangelo is the other piece that regularly gets thrown in for a quick musicality. Once it’s in the chain it’s hard to remove it.

I feel like tracking basically everything through my Quad Eight pres adds cohesion and vibe.
Master bus compression has been mentioned and is a great one, but I'm actually pretty happy with my ITB options there of late, as much as I love my analog chain too. (Line in to 1073 clones to a Stam VCA to A/D).

That I've owned, original Pultecs. Vintage Neumanns. And to a smaller extent, the Avedis MA5.

Silver Bullet, Mr Focus modules, my old 550a pair, and the assortment of vintage transformers I've wired up to patch in here and there.

Ultimately it's the agregate of using lot's of quality equipment. And avoiding gear that impairs SQ.
That said, I could do a mix with only console EQ, a Quantec QRS on send and a Gyraf G24 on the master. The reverb is the best at adding depth and keeping everything transparent even with copious amounts on lot's of tracks, and the compressor excells at pulling a mix together and making it sound finished without ever being obvious.

Pushed to name some items it would be my mix bus chain. HEDD 192 > (VCA comp) > Phoenix Mastering Plus Comp > The Swift EQ. The HEDD FX are unique and the conversion is incredibly musical the Thermionic boxes are like cheating

Boxtone:
Lang PEQ-2s - transformer weight
Drawmer 1961 - harmonics
Vari-MU - warmth, glue
Michelangelo - texture
All of the above together in the right configuration - more than the sum of the parts.

My DWA DI Wolfboxes, my self made/modified CAPI/FiveFish transformer preamps, my DWA Claire microphone (251), MOTU interfaces, any number of good plugins, guess I'll nod to Elevate and Softube Tape.
