For some reason I'm not able to track this in Logic and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.
I have Kontakt player in the MIDI instrument slot. I have Shimmer Shake Strike loaded and set to start with host.
On the Logic track the R for record is enabled. Now it should just track once I hit record. I hear the audio but no MIDI or audio is writing to the track.
Any clues why?

Yes, software instrument. No other option to load up Kontakt that I know of.

In case it’s a session issue have you tried just opening a new session load kontact and see if it works ?

That was a good idea. Tried it. Same result. I hear the audio, but nothing is written.

In the transport bar up the top of the screen when you press a key on your controller do you see a midi note being generated?
Create a midi region on the track then draw in some midi and play and see if you get sound

And it sounds great and has wonderful editing capabilities. I just can't figure out why it's not tracking MIDI notes. If I draw a midi region I can draw in MIDI notes. With other Kontakt instruments I can track things I play. This Shimmer Shake Strike instrument you don't play it yourself.

The developer contacted me with a total non answer. He just says it doesn't write MIDI. But it's not going to track audio on a software instrument track, right?
I'm not sure how I set up a MIDI software instrument to record straight audio???
Anyone else with this instrument have this issue?

Hm, I’ve never thought of SSS as something that would generate MIDI. It’s a VI that you edit within and it generates audio. Why do you need to record it somewhere? If it’s to save resources (deactivating SSS within its Kontakt shell), why don’t you just print the audio to an audio track?

Route the track to an audio track and hit record.

I see nothing in the UI that shows an output option to an audio track. I feel pretty stupid that I can't figure this out.

Okay I think I've figured it out. The output of the software instrument just has to route to a new audio track.

In PT, I would just route the output of the instrument track that SSS is inserted on to a new audio track and then print it.

By the way, I believe this is one of the things that’s changed with SSS 2: with the new version, you can drag a MIDI file out from the UI and drop it into an Instrument track in a DAW.

It will let you continue to edit it if you want down the line. This plug just doesn’t interact with any kind of ‘performance’ that you give it, so there’s no need to deal explicitly in MIDI. You just build your groove within the plug and it plays it.
