They left out the Mackie Onyx, which would always do better than most would think. Chris

The internal mic preamp on a 1976 Radioshack cassette recorder can always do better than a Mackie. </humor>

Also, I don't these are accurately labeled. Mistakes happen. The Grace and Redd sound accurate, the Neve 1073 sounds right on the male vocal but not on the femvox. Not right as in "sorry, must be a file mix-up, that's not what the 1073 sounds like".
Sweetwater does great work and are a great business to deal with, just think some of these have been mixed up.

My 2 cents, probably worth less, but I agree there is something off about the SW comparison's ,..... I agree SW is a good business to deal with, but I'm starting to think there is something about SW's method whether it's tracking/gain staging/bouncing/file upload/ site compression etc or something in their process that minimizes the character differences that are more easily discerned on some Youtube videos or Zenpro's clipilator doing the same thing using the same boxes. After hearing that, it made me rethink the Pultec comparison SW did awhile back that seemed similar to me, and I'm fairly certain the differences between these boxes in your space is larger than these SW clips might have you think. FWIW

They state that they are using fresh/different takes for each preamp, right?

They state that they are using fresh/different takes for each preamp, right? Did you DL them and load them into your DAW? There are some revelations there. Just look closely.

Nope -- don't have time to listen right now. I'm just curious if it's along the line of the Clipilator, or if it's a different take for each preamp.

I really like the Redd. Bright but not harsh. Compresses nicely. Each time I hear that preamp I love the sound, I'm thinking this preamp could be the perfect complement to my darker coil preamps.

I'm very much a Neve guy. I was surprised how similar the AMS Neve 1073 and the Great River were, and how different the BAE sounded. All of them I think sounded really great. I have the AMS Neve 1073 DPX.
I was reminded here why I enjoyed the UA 610 as long as I did. I loved that preamp with my Ribbon Mics. The Redd sounds really nice too. I'd love to try it, but my voice is so big that it usually gets a bit muddy through tube preamps.
The API sounds like the perfect general use preamp. It has some weight and color, but gets out of it's own way. The SSL is very modern. It's a very different, but very useable sound. I had that preamp for a while and there were times it just worked on the project I was working on.

Didn’t see one Option-click worked before, now I can't get it to work either. Even contextual menus worked for "save linked file as". "save target..." on Windows. No, nada. crap.
