Got an email from UA this morning . I got that same email, I think, and I just see where they're offering five additional plugins as a temporary promotion right now. I don't see where it's tied specifically to Heritage editions.

Well if you looked all the Apollos had HE at the end of their names snd you clicked further, they were listed as heritage edition with their plug ins plus the other 5 or did I misunderstand it?
I thought Heritage was done based on Drew’s info last week .

Well, I had been thinking about a twin or the apogee desktop, so non heritage makes sense to me, heritage not at all.

I sold my Apollo x6, but kept my octo and plugs.
So, a twin X is an option , like the Desktop.
I was actually hoping we might see an X refresh, so am curious about the upcoming NAMM.
I don’t track with UA plugs though and have all the UA plugs I want, so a basic Twin, new or used was in the mix, then the Desktop went on sale, so I am demoing it.

Curious if you have the satellite and the plugs you already want, why get a twin? Unless you want console 2 to track with. Even before I left the platform completely and still had my satellite, I was using Motu as my interface. Of course it’s all a matter of preference.

I hsve a huge unexpected tax bill and one free up dough option is to sell my Aurora n and my Daking pre . I mostly single and stereo track so naturally considered devices like the twin and the apogee desktop. The problems I have read about the motu routing matrix are the kind of things I hate, but I have never tried motu either. Anyway, really, it was just that only last week, UA was promoting them now return to non heritage Apollos, so was just perplexed to get a newer promo email for heritage Apollos ?

Yeah MOTU’s matrix isn’t as intuitive as others for sure. I forgot about the tax bill. I hope you can find a way to keep the Daking. I know you love it as much as I love mine.

I thought Heritage was done based on Drew’s info last week . I thought the same thing about HE, so this would be very confusing if they've decided to go back to HE again. Hmmm....

Yeah but still with the HE crap on the x4.
As much as I like my Apollo gear, the new prices with the Heritage Edition software are not worth it. There are too many really good desktop interfaces for less.
After Dan commented in another thread about his MOTU UltraLite MK 5, I decided to look at that more closely. It seems insanely flexible for the price and size. According to the testing by Julian Krause (look up on YouTube) the preamps are about the quietest out there (for desktop interfaces), the latency is low and the headphone amp is quality (for an interface). I love that it has enough outputs to run to a summing mixer, or work with outboard gear, if you want. Plus, the onboard MIDI interface is nice compared to UAD. Not many desktop options have ADAT in AND out. I think if I was looking fresh, or to change, this is the one I'd consider.

There are too many really good desktop interfaces for less. The 16 is also still heritage only..? Not that it matters to me at this point. Motu routing matrix - I have a 16A and honestly never touched it. Once the initial install was done all routing is handled by Logic. Might help that I'm not doing cue mixes via software? Everything goes back to analog, handled by the SSL. Anyway. I love my UAD satellite and I've enjoyed using Apollo's at other shops but the pricing, especially in HE form is extremely hard to justify. I'd swear that the Apollo 16 was $2900 in 2019 when I bought a new DAW rig. Remember looking at it & thinking that'd be great... but I'd also need to change wiring to D sub (old converters were TRS) and that's a big nut on top of what I was already spending. I didn't want to carry debt so maybe in a few months. Fast forward barely a year and the 16 is $4500?? The Motu was $1500 and stripping away the DSP chips... IMO as a basic I/O box sounds & performs just as well. That $3000 difference can buy a lot of other things that actually make a difference... or realistically, just stay banked. Especially in this economy.

Especially in this economy. The x16 originally went for $3500 when it came out, though I got Sweetwater to give me a discount (the one and only time I've ever been successful getting SW to discount anything) and I ended up getting the an x16 for $3000. $4500, however, is just way too much for an x16, no matter what plugins do or don't come with it as part of the HE bundle. I asked Drew at UA recently why the other Apollos were doing away with the HE, but the x16 still was keeping the HE. He said it was because the x16 has different chips than the other Apollos, and that those chips currently are harder to come by, hence the extra cost which is being passed on to the consumer, but "cushioned" by the inclusion of the HE bundle.

I knew the x16 had higher end DA, but I thought they only chips were the sharc chips for uad processing, which I thought were the same as other Apollos.

Do you read posts threads?
I care, because I have been thinking about buying a Twin and don’t appreciate the artificial price increase of the heritage plug package which I don’t need.
Hopefully, my being concerned about the purchase price changes of a product I am interested in and breaking info about further price changes is acceptable to you.
