Considering the thread's titled "Wow" here's two cents to contribute a thought to the geopolitical angle. You have to separate the two things, IMHO: invasion vs Ukraine sympathy and domestic oil. Current admin shut a great deal of US energy independence down the very first day of office. That is a fact. The "9000 current oil drilling leases" that in reality just aren't operating? Well, oil companies aren't going to drill when the chemists suggest there's nothing for which to drill. It's disgusting rhetoric and total misinformation, to use TV's term.
Out of the other side of the admin's environmental mouths they tell you the Keystone pipeline wouldn't help - the same amount of crude is "flowing through other methods." I literally heard that today. Please, enlighten me on how oil flowing through a pipe is less environmentally sound than 100,000 tanker semi trucks and rail lines transporting oil -- effects emissions vs a pipeline?
Strangling oil supply in the US in the name of noble causes is nothing more than trying to bring the middle class and anyone doing good in this country to their knees. Covid is "over". Time for another crisis.
It's not a symptom of terrible policy and leadership, it is 100% on purpose. Much bigger goals at hand.
Edit: changed the accidental "more" to "less" on pipeline conduit.

Because the American public wouldn’t be able to live without their phones, TVs, Computers and air conditioners. Its more then that. Your building a studio in your backyard yeah? I challenge you to find a box of screws or nails that isn't made in China or at least Vietnam. We don't make 'em here anymore. Haven't for many years. There's an awful lot of simple common things that we don't make anymore... lightbulbs are another one. Basic tools like screwdrivers & pliers... not much made in the states anymore. Drive though the rustbelt sometime. I'm sure any of us could rant but a lot of that is due to regulations & specifically environmental laws. Anything involving really nasty chemicals and/or hazard conditions is bad juju. Anyone live near a superfund site..? They're all over. One thing I learned during the lockdowns & shortages was Home Depot is the #2 importer of Chinese goods. So big in fact they essentially bought their own boats to only carry their goods. Pretty crazy. I would've suspected that Harbor Freight did more business... more volume... but they were way down the list. Or maybe our Canadian brothers can relate to Princess Auto? But yeah its more then iphones & cheap TV's. The stuff is everywhere including the toolboxes of guys who repair our cars & houses. Again like the box of screws... find me one guy in the trades that hasn't bought something at Hazard Freight. Its like Project Mayhem... his name was Robert Paulson. Too late we're surrounded. How any of that relates to insane prices on microphones that haven't been made for nearly 3 decades..? I truly do not understand. Since in the old days Harbour Freight felt like the family biz ( one cousin was in charge of advertising his wife still does all the art and his brother was National sales manager and offered more than one position, man fo I miss the family discount.) the big big difference is all that hardware, HF has never done the amount HD can and never will HD also has the whole HD supply thing.

The one lesson I learned living in TX, everyone’s oil reserves are based on current market price, it’s not considered part of your reserves if you can’t get it out of the ground and make $. So since the price of oil has gotten high enough the US currently has the worlds largest oil reserves. Suddenly a big part of those 9000 leases are useable and profitable. The US can make up the difference domestically at these prices without a sweat, the problem is what if Russia or someone else decides to dump a bunch of oil on the world market. Europe would be in a world of hurt if they cut off all Russian energy, just won’t happen unless this escalates. The problem with this is if your selling oil your taking in money and at least some Russian banks will remain on Swift. If you can move legal money, your probably also moving dirty money. Where all this suck is those with money can find a hole to move and spend money look at how the Sanctions on Cuba have worked, if your the ruling class it’s an inconvenience, but if your Everyman you have been royally screwed. Companies like Soyuz are really screwed in a situation like this unless they can come up with some defense based work, anybody remember that DR Porsche was at one time considered a war criminal because he designed some tanks during WWII? Think he did it completely voluntarily? The world’s cutest economist texted me yesterday “ high inflation, labor shortage and what could be WWIII, I’m in S Korea and we are screwed, but you guys are totally and unequivocally throughly boned.” She ain’t wrong.

ericn I get what you're saying and I appreciate your thoughts. The main thing though is "ruling class" versus the rest. Tucker Carlson, like him or not, did a solid piece last night on how this admin hates the middle class. And he's right. They will feel it the worst. Ted Cruz, like him or not, made some very accurate comments on the crap this idiot president did with executive orders the first day in office to drop a bomb on the energy independence we had going in. The last week has seen our president flying around the world in his giant jet asking Iran and Venezuela to "please" produce more. Both of those countries have regimes that are way worse than Russia. Great points about China have been posted here as well. It's nothing but theater and distraction coming from the gov. Absolute insanity and targeted destruction of this country. They got their foot in the door and they are doing as much damage as possible while they can. Gas was $4 here in Texas 9-12 months ago. Russia isn't the problem, nor is production domestically, unless you stop and strangle all of it for the Green New Deal utopia. Like Colbert's tone-deaf comment about how he'll pay $15 for a gallon because he drives a Tesla. Those are cheap. They don't give a crap about every-day-man and his family getting by and living free. They hate those people. That's all I'm going to say about it. Just too fucking exhausting to discuss when the facts are right there for everyone to evaluate. That's NOT directed at you, ericn. Just generally where it sits now.

Just generally where it sits now. No problem, I can’t as this forums unofficial batshit crazy liberal respond to most of this without getting political but points. 1 in my grand old free lance FOH days from Al Gore no less that Secret Service insists on the big AF1 in 99 percent of the cases or a Specific Gulfstream and a fleet yes fleet of escort fighters. 2 Yeah I was laughing at everyone paying $3.70 a gallon at QT as drove buy on my way home and put the Tesla on the free charger ( why does everyone think I would no what gas costs? I don’t even know what it costs to charge the Tesla?) Yes I know the great majority of that electricity was generated from natural gas. But I will say one thing nobody hates the middle class, the middle class is what keeps both parties in power, the problem is the middle class has let both parties take their money from the middle class and give it to the political class so they, again both parties, can stay in power. It’s not as much about a Senator who Drives a Masarati SUV, but all the aids, pollsters, campaign gurus who live in really nice apartments and can afford to eat out in DC.

I hope no one takes offense at this, but this doesn’t belong in the Pro Audio section.
I know I’m new here, but I really don’t want this site going the way of the other audio sites. Leaving things like this in Pro Audio is just asking for big problems. I appreciate that everyone here is passionate, but please allow your passionate feelings on politics to happen elsewhere on the internet, or if you’re American just save it for your Thanksgiving family dinner like the rest of us!
Peace and Love!

Agree with deacon blues. Johnken had a rule, no politics. I know the situation is extreme in Ukraine and does affect the audio production world to some degree, but I can engage in those discussions in a hundred different places.
Let's keep realgear about gear and camaraderie.

Dag. I should cash in on my pair. Sequentially numbered, pristine condition, with non-original leather cases. Do it. Why not? Unless you love them, sentimental, workhorses or whatever.

Btw - why aren’t we canceling China over genocide? Because China’s economy is as much about us as anything else, seriously everyone knows you can’t have bargain basement prices and humane wages, but damn it Walmart has that no name 42 in tV at $399. Of course we are going to bite and we did on cheap labor goods. Yeah your probably going to throw no politics at me but you also have to understand that even on the left there is no absolutely excepted definition of Human Rights. By most respected and excepted definitions the US is the biggest violator of human rights ( death penalty and prison system). So be careful what you wish for when it comes to sanctions because of Human Rights.
