Okay - hit me with what you guys like. I’ve had a Strat body laying around forever. I used the neck for a coodercaster build that I did a few years ago and I do love the way that neck feels on that guitar so I’m going to leave it. Gonna order up a new neck from fender and some new pickups but there are so many damn options out there. What do we all like? Looking for early to mid 60’s thing. Probably flat pole pieces. Go! I bought a set of Rocketfire Total ‘60s to put in my strat build.

There’s nothing wrong with the stock pickups in my Vintera Roadworn strat. Btw - my mind was blown when I read that Vintera was “Vintage Era.” I thought it was named after the town in Mexico it came from lol Thought the strat was close - impressive - but still dug the vintage. The tele was closer to me. That’s the exact Strat I have (Ass Brown) and the tele is the exact color I want. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/0992205000--fender-vintera-60s-vintage-stratocaster-pickup-set

Awesome. Thanks for sharing Johnkenn. The Blue Tele sounds more like a 60s Tele than a 50s. Both amazing sounding Telecaster eras, just different. The early-mid 50s Teles had a little more beef, and that is recreated beautifully in SD's Broadcaster pup. Even better in the Vineham zero-60 (hum canceling to boot)

Scroll down in the comments on that video. Some people have posted links where you can click to hear each guitar back to back on each pickup. Where I thought I heard differences didn’t sound so different when hearing back to back.

Speaker emulations always seem a bit flat to me. I wish they'd have used a mic on the amp.

Friedman makes great pickups. I just put a classic+ in my hss strat and sounds great. I like it way better than the Bareknuckle varieties I’ve tried over the years.
I think I’m going to order then neck and middle singles too.

I'll add another set: the Lollar Blondes. They were in a Nash S-63. I bought the guitar to flip it, but I did like those pups. I liked the guitar, too. I'm kinda already Sir Stratalot over here, so it wasn't around long.

Our own achase4u is the sole proprietor of Rumpelstiltskin Pickups. IMO he winds the best Fender type pickups on Earth. Google Rumpel pickups or search on the guitar forums. He will nail your Strat tonal desire. Disclaimer: he is my friend and musical collaborator. I started out as a simple repeat customer because his pickups were fantastic. We simply became friends after that. Contact him, get Rumpel goodness, and have great Strat tone.

Finally my 2 custom strats have been built to my specs. This took way longer then I thought it would nearly 1 x year from inception to completion. Custom Vintage wound Alnico 5 pickups, Gold hardware everywhere and custom 41V red sparkle paint job. Based on an original 1961 Fender that I borrowed from a friend. It's pretty dam close in pickup sound. Feels a little different. Not going down this road again. But the pickups are very nice. gallery by BEANAT19, on Flickr

I put a set of Klein 59 pickups in my strat and totally love them. Woody and really touch sensitive. Not a pronounced quack or mid-range dip like some other strat pickups, but also not overwound and hot. Just really nice pickups.
