Hey gang. I want to get some headphones for someone as a gift. They’re not into audio in any way, these will mainly just be used for playing a keyboard. Wanna spend around fifty bucks and I was looking at the AT M20x, mostly because I’ve had M50s for years and have had some good experiences with the cheaper ATs in studios before.
Anything you guys like/don’t like in this price range?

I like the m50’s way more than m20’s for what it’s worth. But for casual listening they’re probably fine. Sometimes you can find sennheiser hd280’s for cheap and they’re pretty good. I bought three pairs for about $70 each and I’m happy with them.

Other than AKG K52's? Chris Yeah, they are a nice design but its a shame about the sound that comes out of them HD280 or some cheap openback Sennheiser would be my choice.

Grado sr60es are close to 50 from what I remember. Most issues I have with them would be non factors for the casual user I would think.... maybe comfort though would be a concern?

Monoprice DJ Headphones work great for tracking and are only like $16. Tape Op even reviewed them, which is how I found out.
