This is certainly going to be interesting. warmaudio.com/october-reveal/Didn’t really see this one coming. Can’t say I’ve ever had the itch to use the Sony, but if this is priced right, I might have to give it a shot. Might be a killer tool for the occasional trap/hiphop vocal!

I was curious about that too. The Golden Age Premier clones (IIRC) tend to be more expensive in general, so maybe a Warm C800G will be less. Though I'm hard pressed to believe Warm would want to sell a mic above $2k, but maybe I'm making assumptions.
Doesn't Peluso make an C800G for roughly 2k? Nevermind, I was thinking* of the P280.

People can make a mic look like another mic but if the capsules are not the same.... it's probably not going to sound the same. It may sound good or even better, but the capsule is king of the the sound.

Never used a warm mic but the online consensus seems to be that they don't sound like the mics they have supposedly cloned.

Korby 800, GAP, Stam, AA, JJ Akita, Barbaric, Warm.
7 so far. Any others? Haven't heard them but guess it'd be difficult to wire that "feedback" to the Sony 67 style capsule & "duplicate" all the rest ... & for under $4K?

IMHO Warm's WA-14 is underrated. And there are so many 414 incarnations, to begin with. I like my Warm 47jr. quite a bit, even though it's as close to a 47 FET... As a Chihuahua to a Great Dane. Chris P.S. In beer budget land, Warm knows the AA CM800T is their main competition.

I agree with everything but your last point, because Warm is selling through dealers I bet they really don’t think they have competition on this one… yet!

Yes that interesting, the Warm 87 clone didn’t sound too bad.
Mind you, the 800 is a very picky mic. A real one is a very bright etched delivery, my tenor voice is way too bright for that mic, when it’s right they do sound great, but when the match is wrong it’s way wrong!

Warm is a waste of time for me. It’s not that bad, it’s not that good either.

I think one of the designers of the 47jr had posted on one of the numerous message boards that the 47jr. was never intended to be a fet47 clone but something entirely different, but that's how marketing ran with it. I might be extrapolating the second half of that statement, but I'm fairly sure I remember reading the first half.

Just think every GC will soon have a Sony clone that looks like a Sony on Tik Tok video! What a great time to be alive. Sarcasm alert

Warm is a waste of time for me. It’s not that bad, it’s not that good either. For a world class Producer/AE like yourself, that makes total sense. For someone like myself, at the (lower) "serious pastime" level, it's fun to screw around with! Chris

I might be extrapolating the second half of that statement, but I'm fairly sure I remember reading the first half. Honestly, when they first brought that microphone out, the hyped marketing... Made the initial experience a let down. But it's a very nice multi-pattern mic. Whenever we do some "One Mic" live recording at a Buddy's home, we can spare his U87. We'll feel a lot better if the 47 Jr. gets dropped/bumped/the red wine spills on it, versus the 87! Chris P.S. The circuitry is "tuned bright" on it, even though the (mellower) capsule is the same as the Warm Wa-47. But for BGV's or a 12" or greater distance lead vocal, it's a good vocal mic.

Oh-ho. I just saw the Golden Age go on sale for $3.6k... (Not actually inferring that there's any connection, just thought it was funny while browsing through sales.) P.S. The circuitry is "tuned bright" on it, even though the (mellower) capsule is the same as the Warm Wa-47. But for BGV's or a 12" or greater distance lead vocal, it's a good vocal mic. Now you have me wondering if it would be a fun mic to mod. I feel like I've seen a few of these at some modest used prices. Probably not a smart idea for me though, I still haven't gotten around to half of the other "projects" I have.

I would just get a Roswell mini47 and call it a day. If I had a little more money the Roswell Coloras. Both are nice mics to have around.

Sony C800G gets the glory for Modern R&B/Rap/Hip Hop. But to my ear, a good 47 tube style... Would give it a run for its money, in those styles. Why? Certain (actually a legion of) key "47" recordings. Chris

I do know a couple of art directors who love the look though.
