I have 2 ULN-8's in the studio (considering adding another ULN-8 or a LIO-8) for a decade. Couldn't be happier. Also, every box they've ever produced has been able to be updated to their latest technology. Service, when you need it may be the best I've encountered. Anything specific you'd like to know?

Really liked my neighbors Metric Halo box, I think he hasn’t updated to 3D. Definitely a contender for me should I eventually need an upgrade for my little home writing rig.

My studio engineer has several in his personal home/mobile rig and raves about them. 79sg's comments mirror everything I've heard about them. I'm simply curious as to how many of RGO folks are using them. It really seems as if there are no downsides, except perhaps cost and the fact that they are Mac only.

There are a good handful of people on this board that use the brand. I think they are really well designed. The philosophy on future proofing is unique to the entire industry. I've had more time spent with them on the old software, as a mentor of mine was one of their beta testers and had a few models. How easy they make it to route signals compared to other companies was very impressive to me.
The preamps are very clean and pleasant sounding. It is expensive, but I don't think anyone will regret choosing it, because unlike the older expensive Apogee or Pro-Tools rigs, your cost to upgrade will be much less.

I have a ULN-8 3D that have updated and have owned for 11 years or so and it is a workhorse. I use it to host my JCF AD-8s and extra utility channels. Highly recommended.

I've run a ULN-2 since 2010 ; not a hint of issues. They are not dear when you realise they are easily in the Prism, Apogee etc class . It's like saying a Mercedes is pricey ; you can't manufacture genuine quality with small change.
Cheers, Ross

I’ve owned all the MH boxes and currently have 2xULN8 (3D).
I’m selling my outboard preamps because the ULN preamps are more than good enough for me. Plus, for what I do, preamp distortion isn't very useful -- can always add distortion later.

I've got 2 ULN-8 and a ULN-2; used to have a 2882 but I sold it (to get the second ULN-8). If you're after a transparent pre the ULN-8 will go toe-to-toe with anyone; the low end in particular is exceptional. MIOConsole is mind-bogglingly flexible. (The downside of that is that you have to dig into the manual to do just about anything at first.) Be aware that that the current release of 3d is technically a "public beta" - it's extremely reliable for what it does but if you haunt the Metric Halo listserv you'll find that those who push the envelope occasionally have weird experiences. Oh, and like any non-Apple-store app under Big Sur, getting it installed is something of a PITA.
Hope this helps!

I don't know if it's the preamps or the conversion (or both), but it's like seeing the bottom of the Grand Canyon with exceptional detail.

You guys are gonna end up costing me money..... It may feel that way at first but actually you end up saving money and time (which is far more valuable than money). How so? You won't think about conversion, mic pres (clean), monitor controller, etc. anymore (or nearly as much). The other thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is with the latest update to PB11, they've included their production bundle plugins so they can be used in the MioConsole now (you won't be able to use them in your DAW (unless you already own the bundle that way). This is in addition to all of the other included plugins, graphs, so on and so forth.

Metric Halo is a pretty old fashioned company, they don’t bring out some new interface every year, they don’t release new software till they know it works. Oh and everything they make sounds damn good. So why wouldn’t you buy in? How many other manufacturers can you think of that build an interface that will let you add another or update the DSP of an interface that is over 15 years old. If I didn’t have the RADAR V/24 I would probably have bought into MH or one or 2 other systems.

I have an LIO-8 with 8 preamps that I’ve been using several years. It’s upgraded to 3D and I recently ordered a second one to expand my system. I have an audient asp880 connected to the AES input. It’s been very stable. The MIO software is extremely flexible (like a virtual large format console). The expandability with the edge cards is a big plus for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them!
