I’ll update what’s going on with my situation if anyone still cares lol.... I messaged the buyer my video of the amp working, and called him out. Obviously no response. Classy. Reverb is giving me 14 days to refund the item minus fees and taxes, which is cool because that wasn’t really made clear to me. I also have a very nice member here going to look over the amp for me to make sure it’s in top top shape before I resell it. It is listed several places at the moment. Reverb is going to cover any tech costs I ensue as a credit on what I owe back. So in the end, still quite the pain in the arse for such an expensive specialty item, but as long as it doesn’t take me months to resell this thing, I should make out alright. If Reverb is covering any tech costs I would have who ever is checking write an invoice for a nice bench fee and submit it! At the very least we can hope they take it out of the refund to your dissatisfied buyer. Umm yes.

You’re the man. Really appreciate your help. Can’t believe we did that EP like 20 years ago! What did we record to btw??? Adat? Pro Tools? Was everyone's favorite rig of the day - Smackie 24x8 with a pair of ADAT XT's. Real question is, and I'm pretty sure I should have a copy of the EP somewhere to confirm... what year was it?! Honestly can't remember and I'm not sure if possibly we were supposed to record at the studio I worked at and moved to the house because of a conflict, or if I had quit the studio and was only working out of the house. Answer to that would sort of dictate how much outboard gear & mics I had at the time... Always had at least a few outboard preamps with the Smackie but when I started working out of the house full time I bought a lot more stuff. BTW - Don't thank me until you get the bill. But hey, Reverbs paying for it! lol

Here is full unedited context of the conversation I had with Rob in my server about the ATC amplifier, before he knew that the OP (seller) had made the situation public. He has since deleted many of the messages before being banned. Wow, thanks for taking the time to not only archive all of this but also for sticking up for seller and the integrity of doing aftermarket (is that the term?) business.
Thanks for the kind words. I do a lot of business in the audio world between buying/selling, as well as equipment repair and restoration. I know for damn sure that if I were in the seller's shoes, I'd appreciate someone doing the same for me. I take pride in being an honest business person and absolutely hate to see when people get screwed over.

So for anyone who's following the saga and/or might be interested in giving Nicks very fine ATC P1 power amp a new and loving home...
I did the physical inspection yesterday and have been playing music through it all afternoon. All is well.
There was some evidence that Mr Try & Buy did have the cover off. Among other things greasy fingerprints are always a dead giveaway...
Its a great amp. Not sure my Tannoy PBM 6 have ever sounded better! All I needed to do was connect $300 speakers to a $3500 amp! Izzz niiiice!
Will keep the burn in going to be 110% sure there's nothing funny then box it up tomorrow morning.
IMO it should be criminal that someone can abuse the Reverb system like this. Wasted a lot of Nicks time and burned money with round trip shipping. All because of buyers remorse..? While I know sites like Reverb with their laundry list of policies should create trust, and probably do... there are always exceptions that tear down that trust.
At the VERY least they should bang the buyer for 100% of the shipping and hassle. But they probably won't. Sucks.

Spoke to soon, but now having same problem with PayPal.
Buyer after receipt a week ago told me everything ok, so I ordered some new gear. Now, he claims 1 channel is cutting out, although , I never had any problems with the unit for 1.5 years. I offered to split cost to diagnose and repair, but now he seems to want to just return it, now with a problem and I’ll be out of pocket a few hundred.
PayPal supports all this and will put a claim against my account, drag so I deleted my two credit card today and may just forfeit my account.
Does anybody protect a legitimate and honest seller ?

That sucks, removing your card will do very little, they have it from when they paid you so I am sorry to say your screwed.

They’ll put a claim against my account but I will direct my credit card company not to accept a charge and cancel the card: will also direct my bank not to accept a charge.
I don’t like to play hardball but a transaction needs to be fair for both parties: buy, try and return under unclear circumstances doesn’t seem fair to me.
Anyway, one day at a time.

Luckily, buyer has agreed to split repair costs, great that he is being reasonable.

Don't know if this will chase off a few of the buyers remorse "buy it and try it type Reverb buyers who create fake issues to return perfectly working items....... but I sold an item today and started adding to my Reverb Sales info - "Due to Reverb's policies, the Buyer will receive a positive Feedback rating 7 days after receiving this documented perfectly working double boxed item. ( After 7 days of receiving an item, Reverb no longer sides unconditionally with the buyer)
I know it won't work for all scammers but hopefully it will chase a few of the buy and try crowd away to easier pickings FWIW.
