The sound clips of this brute do sound rather impressive. Anyone here had any dealings with, Martin?

Yeah I saw it. To be honest, I'm a little leery of ordering from Europe. I don't think he has anyone in the States to service or take care of issues. Sinsay would be a prime candidate for this. Shoot Martin an e-mail JK and see if he would like to join and talk about the mic. I'm pretty interested but there are some extreme circumstances to boutique European gear.

This could be as legit as they come, but call me a cynic 8) The pretty site, and putting your mic in a picture with a bunch of legendary mics seems to me, so does the voodoo push in the vid, of NOT talking about your circuit..at all? (rupert neve talks about his stuff all day long, so does every other designer i trust). This inspired me to do a little testing of the samples from that site... First let me preface my findings with this... IMO, all the quality U47 clones are EXACT U47 circuit/body recreations, with the exception of some other tube implementation designs employed due to the VF 14 tubes being out of reach$. In the case of the NU47, I believe the body is wood(probably foil lined), the head basket is single layer and wide open, this is not at all conducive to getting the U47 "sound", regardless of circuit changes(maybe the blue led light helps?). The construction materials and acoustics of the U47 body and head basket etc, are a very large part of the 47 "sound". To my ears, in the samples, the NU47 sounds nothing like the U47(after level matching ) The NU47 is jumpy, the midrange doesn't push smooth the same, and the low end is flubby vs the tighter bottom of the U47(analyzer bears all this out). The other mics samples are also biased IMV but you be the judge, i find the differences in level to be...well lets say...interesting when using them for comparisons to sell your mic? Everyone knows that the exact same track a 1/2db louder, is perceived to sound better by humans. Unless i made a huge mistake in analyzing this(which is totally possible 8/), the Neumanns were the lowest levels of all the mics, that must be a coincidence...? BTW, to be clear, I'm not saying these mics are no good, and i'm also a huge Bruce Swedien fan 8) View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentNeumann U47 level matched https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/not-nu-neumann-u47-level-matchNordic NU47 level matched https%3A//soundcloud.com/tonycamp/nu47-level-matchYou're looking at the wrong mic. It's the NU-47 V

Jeesh, Tony...I would say you've made your opinion clear...This guy has a stellar reputation and I'm sure you could email him with any concerns you have with his mic. www.nu47.com/NU-47V.pdf

If it's good enough for Bruce Swedien, and he associated his name with it, I don't think they're dicking around with secretly jacking up their volume and "suckering" us in. Also, at $4500, I think the potential buyer would probably be saavy enough to know whether it sounds right or not.

If this was only $2500... buy the diy iaudio or the upcoming studio 939 and get another blue cap; doubt u will drop even $2500 the gs site for the nu47 is interesting it basically dried up for about a year; one Us purchaser did have some problems and getting them sorted out was problematic but they are up and running now and will post real studio user opinions soon ; if you are interested.

It's a dude from groupdiy chunger's storefront where you can buy kits and whatnot to build mics. Bought most of my C12 clone stuff from him

really? maybe you should dismiss Chuck out of hand too? Besides, if the company says it's good, then it's good, and Unicorns are the colors of rainbows, why would you discuss this any further? what do you think this is an audio gear forum?...smh and yes, you totally deserve that 8)

I get SO tired of the bickering...Can we just have one thread without the bickering and one-upsmanship? tonycamphd, maybe I unfairly responded to you - and for that, I deeply beg your undying forgiveness - but it seems like every time I open up a thread, there's inevitably SOMEONE poo-pooing or "catching a conspiracy"...It's just tiresome.

LOl, Such authenticity in that apology, maybe matkat is right? lets get this straight and move on, I did not dismiss the microphone, You apparently didn't have time to read my original post accurately JK? I on the other hand took an hour of my life to put together an empirically accurate and very thoughtful post,(with data, photos and audio samples, i wish more people would do this, don't you?) to advance a dialogue for the sake of the forum, and to benefit forum members(friends). It was a conscience effort on my part as a contributing RGO member, to try to help arm people with some good info and healthy skepticism toward making a better decision regarding whether to purchase/or not, a piece of gear that costs as much as $8k! It is EXACTLY what a good gear forum should be built upon, and that type of content is also the best way to attract new quality members IMO. You must have thrown aside all my acronyms and disclaimers on my first post, and saw only what you wanted to see, to suggest what you did. Those were the only 5 acoustic g samples on Nordics site(acoustic g's are always the most revealing IMV), by my TESTING, the 2 neumanns were 2-3db colder than HIS mics in the samples, it could be a very strange coincidence, but it's NOT an opinion, it's a fact, Nordics arrangement is not a fair microphone comparison regardless of the mics involved, humans perceive louder sounds as better sounds by as little as a 1/2db increase in level, whether Nordic did it intentionally or not is a moot point, though i will admit the discovery made my post more pithy than it otherwise would have been, i mean 2 of the 5 mics down 2/3 db were the Neumanns But what really rubbed me the wrong way was the "email him if you have a problem" and "if it's good enough for Swedien" posts quelling the conversation, and jumping to the side of some jive ass wood mic maker, over a guy who's watched your back since day one over here man? you dismissed my effort out of hand, and intended or not, called me at best full of it, or at worst a liar with those follow up posts. Right or wrong, thats the way it read to me. I have loved it here at RGO, I've put a lot of time in, and promo effort out there for the benefit of this forum, and as an original and extremely active member, i'd think i deserved just a little better than that for my time brother thats it T
