Well I'm sorry to say, after some trouble shooting it would appear mine does not pass sign/provide phantom power. Going to do some testing. But bit of a bummer.
Patch it all up. Swap in a VP312, works perfect. Swap the VP312 to the V1290 and nothing. More to dig into..Hopefully get it fixed tonight otherwise I won't be able to use it tomorrow.

@johnkenn - Mwhahaha, we may just do that, but they can't stay on the shelf long enough to pull one out for a demo at the moment 😁! We'll try to address a few questions in this thread and add a little informative context: The Lid Design:The V3A was our first 500-series design and all of our subsequent cases follow this core design. The lid was added for more than just the aesthetic here. It adds an extra layer of darkness for the photocells in that design, there is foam around them and a top EL Panel board, but some light can still get in and can shift the 'zero' point while in the GR Meter Mode. If there isn't a module directly next to the V3A, we recommend keeping the lid on. We realize that not every person has their 500-series chassis jam-packed, so it was necessary to add this to the design. Subsequent products that followed still keep the lid - that and the powder coat don't add much to the cost for us on the case, which brings me to the next point. The Price:lpedrum and a few others alluded to it, but it's true. The amount saved on the case, power transformer, and XLR's get negated by the amount of labor it takes to put each one of these together. Straight up PITA. A lot packed in a small space, but we're not going to sacrifice anything component-wise, making assembling them considerably more complex and time-intensive. And then there's the cost of the COMPONENTS. We're putting the same high-grade components as companies that charge considerably more and going to the ends of the earth to find obsolete active parts (at a far higher expense, with limited availability on the surplus market). The TDK is a DC-DC converter and not a cheap part as well ;-) We are a glutton for punishment and often do things the hard way, but we feel it shines in the final product and sound! 👍 $679 for a killer 3A recreation in 500-series format. $799 for a legit, well-done 1290 with decades-long obsolete original transistors. FWIW, the cost of EVERYTHING we use to make all of our products has gone up considerably over the years. Even an IEC socket is 3X the cost in QTY from when we started. We haven't raised our prices despite all of this. Having turnkey US labor here on-site and still maintaining that standard is something we're pretty proud of. 😎 Hope this helps clear things up a bit for everyone! As always, we appreciate ALL of your support, comments and questions! 🙏 I mean this in the kindest way possible and I dig my AS gear (I own four) - less emojis and less all-caps would be really welcomed! We all get the points and the message. No need to shout it out.

I'm a pretty chill guy but I actually like AudioScape's over-the-top enthusiasm. It seems to be what fuels their company. AudioScape doesn't just want to make gear, they want to make GEAR!!!

I don't know, i think I could use more hair gel, black (p)leather jackets, and a perfectly sculpted 5 o'clock shadow on a spokesperson/owner. Audioscape, you think you could do that?
On a more serious note - any chance you could let us in on if there are any additional 500 series dynamics modules in the works?

I enjoy the passion that AS (Charlie especially) brings to the table. Animated expressiveness is common amongst creatives...and he always does so in a positive and extremely helpful (not to mention transparent) way. And with all due respect, I interpret 3 capitalized words out of 438 (or 0.007) as emphasis, not shouting.

Gotta love Audioscape.
After some chatting, deemed the unit not functional. They are sending a replacement at no charge. Top tier dude's these guys are.
Alas this means I can't use it on the session tonight so sorry fella, sound sample will have to wait.
Thank you Chris and Charlie for being stand up professionals. Can't wait to hear a working unit!

The lack of testimonials I'm chalking up to a forum-wide failure. Every one of us ought to be ashamed.

This thing sounds great! been using it all week to track female vocals with a Cu-29 Copper head and through my 76A too. Sounds excellent.

Any immediate comparisons/differences come to mind vs. other 500 series? (For example: ever used an Avedis MA5?) Not in a Neve flavor for me. Only other Neve preamp I have good experience with is a vintech x73i. I've eyed the MA5 a lot. It is very thick, like way thick. I can see it being too thick for some things honestly. But overall wonderful. This thing sounds great! been using it all week to track female vocals with a Cu-29 Copper head and through my 76A too. Sounds excellent. Anything else Nevey at yours to compare it to? Just a vintech x73i. Though I don't own it. It is thicker than the vintech though in the low mids particularly. I swapped to a Grace pre for a bit and it really showed how thick it was.
