I have been in the Enterprise Software industry since ‘92.
That said, the last things I want to do are 1) learn a new OS, have been on Windows since 3.1 and 2) screw around with issues on my dedicated audio computer.
In August of 2019, after months of shopping, I went with a Sweetwater Creation Station, designed for audio, with an optional ASUS TB3 port.
I use a Lynx Aurora(n) Thunderbolt.
The Creation Station was just under $3K delivered and the support has been excellent.
I have only had one issue, which turned out to be something I can avoid. I moved my studio upstairs to allow my wife to renovate the entire downstairs. During renovations, contractors accidentally shut down power, I had to pull my Thunderbolt card and reinstall. It took a while to figure this out but a UPS ensures I won’t have to do it again.
Other than that, it is quiet and cool enough for studio use, powerful and zero issues over at least 100 sessions, daily mixing and mastering.
Highly recommend both Sweetwater and Lynx for Support. They even worked together to ensure the build was right and when I ran into the TB issue above.

It was on Windows 7 and reluctantly moved to Windows 10 with Cubase Pro but I've been so pleasantly surprised. I find Windows 10 to be a thoroughly modern OS - it has been 100% reliable, I've had absolutely zero issues with updates and Cubase has been running all day every day with zero crashes - I'm very pleased with just how stable and reliable W10 actually is. It's also very efficient and loads so quickly. I also run OSX on an iMac for Logic X and OSX feels very much like Windows 7 in as much as it feels a bit old and tired. Windows 10 has the most modern OS feel about it, I think Apple needs to do to OSX that which Microsoft has done with the leap from W7 to W10 and bring it up to date. Thanks! Reassuring for the upcoming W10 user with very modest needs AKA me. I still have an ancient W7 laptop, but the battery is only good for close to an hour! So it's dependent on mains. Chris P.S. Great to see you've joined us Steven!

Choosing between Apple and PC for music production can be quite a decision. It's awesome that you're focusing on power and reliability for your home studio setup. Both Mac and PC have their pros and cons.
Considering your requirements, a Mac Pro tower could be a solid choice if you're willing to invest, especially if you're eyeing the M1 processor. On the other hand, the iMac with M1 is also gaining popularity, but external expansions might be needed. By the way, if you're looking to enhance your music journey, you might find resources like streamingfamous.com interesting. Music production has certainly evolved with technology. Ultimately, your choice will depend on your preferences, budget, and what aligns best with your workflow.
