Man I think you all who have any troubles with either platform need to really look at how you are using the machine and what you're doing to protect it and keep it stable.
I work on both Mac and PC every day as one of the audio programs I use doesn't work on Mac at all. I never have issues.
For god's sake people, turn auto update OFF! You should never be running cutting edge builds of software. Let others do that and see what the issues are. Then move forward. Mac or PC.

I am on Mac since 1996, and I will never look back again. My main computer for music is from 2010 and the second one from 2006.
PC guys constantly buy new machines, and I just wonder how powerful my old Mac pros are in 2021.
My next buy will be depending on the fact if Apple starts something to do to save humans and the planet. I am really pissed that one of the largest companies still thinks it's OK to ruin mother earth.
"PC guys constantly buy new machines" Uh, no.
I run my PCs until their legs fall off. I've run machines with the side permanently off because the company who made it were really bright and used a nonstandard power supply that was about an inch shorter than normal - when the PS went I had to hang the new supply out the side. Still have that one, it's the only thing I have that runs Photoshop PS2...
I built our studio machine, used a server rackmount case. Been rebuilt once already.
Same here. I know mine is over ten years old. Just treat it like a tape machine and you're good to go. Still can run 100+ track projects. Also, I use PCIe cards to interface with my converters, and with modern Macs, that means an expensive add-on box. I'm also not interested in the OS updates that have users constantly in a tizzy.

I’ve never really understood the complaint about OS updates.
Like, don’t #%*$& update!
I don’t think I’ve ever updated to a new OS before it’s been out for a year or so. Why would I?

My studio machine is still on 10.11 because it runs. It’s also a fact that I don’t need every week a new OS X. Apple went nuts the last few years with updates.

Been a Mac dude forever. My Macs last for 6-8 years on average.
For my studio I always stay quite a bit behind the curve to give product developers time to catch up. Right now I’m on Catalina in the studio.
I also try to limit my number of suppliers of plugins etc so any update is easy to manage. So for example I am all in on UAD and FabFilter and have 2 main extras (Soothe and Acon Noise Reduction/DeClick) .. so checking compliance with a new OS is easy. There is also an added benefit of really gettingto know what I have rather than become a “plugin-collector”
I did break my rule a bit by starting to use LUNA as its developed … and at some point they will break a project of mine … but I am keeping 2 versions running and upgrading manually with caution… but I will be bitten sooner or later, I accept the risk cos I love working in LUNA so much (coming from Logic, never used PT)

Or just be a rebel and run Reaper under Linux! Yikes. Worst UX ever. IMHO. The Linux one or the reaper one? Both are skinnable..

I’ve never really understood the complaint about OS updates. Like, don’t #%*$& update! I don’t think I’ve ever updated to a new OS before it’s been out for a year or so. Why would I? Easily said. Not as easily done. I usually update about every 3rd OS update. Currently running Mojave, and I think that's as far as this cheese grater will go. But I would have stayed on an OS many years older if I could have. The problem comes with some of the developers and how they conspire to make you upgrade and keep buying. Hell, I'd gladly pay yearly to have the installers for newer versions install on older OS's. NI/Kontakt comes to mind. Library developers make their shiny new product that I need to run to stay in the game only run on the latest version of Kontakt. Then NI only makes Kontakt installers for the current OS, and usually ONE OS before the current OS. Apple seems to change installer paradigms like most people change their underwear. So you get caught between a rock and a hard place. I wish it was so easy. I THINK in the PC world this is less of a "thing" and plugins, apps, etc. can generally run and install on older versions of the OS. Not 100% sure of that though....

I have reaper sessions from 2008 I can still run. Some of the plugs have to be in an x86 to 64 wrapper, but it works. I consider this foray to be a trial run. We'll see how it goes.

I think the biggest problem is the old “forced upgrade” when somebody walks in with a session with the latest and greatest plugins all over it and you find yourself upgrading everything for one client. Now just of being the DAW specialist for a major dealer and you have to keep all the demo systems on the latest and greatest when you know 2 version ago was the most stable. I miss it like I miss a feeding tube!

Yeah I guess I'm fortunate not to rely on any plugins that immediately yank support for previous OS when a new one comes around. I haven't ever dealt with a company like that and if I did, that'd be it for my patronage of their stuff. I've been hanging back a year or two before jumping to any OS for a decade or so and never run into trouble. If some third party software was trying to force me to always be an early OS adopter, it would be a non-starter for me. Even so, you're on Mojave, which is 3ish years old and two OS iterations back and (I think?) still "in the game", so not too terrible.

But as a writer of all different things from orchestral to film to acoustic stuff, Kontakt is pretty important for me. I do very much so feel like I'm held hostage at their (and Apple's) whims. Whatever. It is what it is. As you mentioned, I'm a few years behind, but the future is looming.... LOL One thing I've thought about is running a second machine to host my sample libraries and hook the two computers together with VEP. That would solve the problem, cause as far as DAW goes, I'm fine with HDX and Mojave. But it's a kludgey workaround, and not as elegant as just working inside your DAW. No doubt - I'll be forced into upgrading soon.....

Or I guess a now "outdated" mac mini Intel machine. I'm hoping the next gen mac mini allows external PCI support and I'll jump on that. My Cheese Grater is too old and slow to run Mojave well. Running a Trashcan at work.

Also always nice to have a second machine around that you can keep both functions on a backup boot drive just in case a Machine goes down. I know having a backup is an old live guy thing.

Last I checked anyways..if that has changed then I'll be buy a mac mini. Which is tricky. Not really a new mac yet that works with PCI cards in external chassis's. So our only real option is the $6000 Macpro. Or I guess a now "outdated" mac mini Intel machine. I'm hoping the next gen mac mini allows external PCI support and I'll jump on that. Faster to just buy an upgraded 4,1 or a 5,1 from the get go. But now, it doesn't make sense as you pointed out the OS is already pretty old. 3 versions old now. So it's just not worth it at this time to buy something "new". I'm still hoping the new mac mini with a Sonnet Chassis will work once PCI support is unlocked. Especially because the new mac minis are very very quiet.
