How’s this channel strip? Looks like I can pick it up for 50 bones right now.

Cheapest it’s ever been. I think it’s fantastic. If I want SSL, it’s my go-to. Really nice to have the E eq option on there too. Dynamics are the best SSL channel dynamics I’ve heard in a plug.

What about the updated SSL Duende Channelstrip?
I've tried and thought it was excellent. I'm using that now instead of the UAD SSL E and bx_console SSL E, my usual go-tos. I know that both are the 4kE console and not the 9k, but anyway, really enjoying these new plugins.

I love the PA 9K. More open top than 4K.

Better than UAD SSL 4k E? I don’t have any UAD stuff. I usually prefer it over the waves 4K though

Better than UAD SSL 4k E? The filters on the 9000 and ssl native are way different and smoother. They’re closer to the G but even smoother. Very nice stuff.

Well...the filters on the SSL Native V2 and the BX 9k (all the other BX SSL as well) are very different slopes. I prefer the SSL Native filters. The SSL Native EQ is cleaner to me, which I prefer on some things. I think I prefer the compressor on the BX 9k though.

The compressor on the bx 9000j makes you go “oh, yeah I recognize that sound.” Can’t ask for much better than that.

It's definitely my favorite SSL emulation. Works great on drum tracks. It just works and has the sound I'm going for. The compressor is the highlight. fat and punchy.

The only issue I have is that none of those capture the TRUE 9k sound. My 9k racks has a haze sound ( that British sound ).
The only thing close was nebula but I’m not running reaper so I can’t take advantage running a lot of nebula instances.

No offending, in my experience those opinions fade away when the files are correctly level matched, and you blind AB them.
I thought my 1073 is the holy grail, but I feared a proper AB session to 1073 plug ins.
In the end, it was no big deal, just two different tools - cut from the same cloth.
Modern plug ins go a long way....
Meanwhile, it makes me happy to stay away from hardware.... sounds crazy, but it's 2021...

I dig it. The plugins are cleaner. The nebulas capture more dirt. But I’m a hardware guy. Some pieces are original and some units are clones. My issue is the FLATNESS. Records are made with all the tools anyways but I have my preference.

Same as above for me ^^^ . I wish it wasn't so for my wallet's sake, but to my ears (with some exceptions), it's the FLATNESS that's the #1 reason that leads me to spend for good hardware when I can.

I find it very "natural" sounding, (ugh, I hate it) for an SSL. Pardon the verbiage. It's more open sounding and relaxed than some of the SSL consoles. Not totally sold on it yet, but I will most likely continue to apply it here and there searching for the moment of it clicking.
First reach for me are bx 4000 E, and UAD 4000. That sound I am sold on. These are a little tougher sounding with more aggressive mids. I'm so used to using those I haven't really implemented the SSL Native V2 stuff yet, even though I have them. The SSL Native have more of a point on them, less rounded, although the V2 are a little bit more round.
We are covered in this stuff, smothered in it. The flatness of digital doesn't bother me, but I can hear it. SSL plugins are sort of the natural high ending point of digital technology...incredible. Although sometimes I don't want to use them on every single project because when you use SSL and Empirical Labs as your drum sound, for example, you're sounding like some kind of top chart radio thing rather than some old school, abbey road something or other. Depends on which flowers are blooming today, and yesterday's news.

If anyone wants PA SSL 9000 J for $50 by the end of today (midnight california time) you can use these two codes:
2021-07-50225G4YRL39
SSL-9000J-9999

I've demoed bx 9k some months ago, but it was too expensive.

I have no notion of "committing to one plugin" or something like that. My templates usually have a mix of different brands in any given mix project. So in that sense, the SSL 9000 J might get used here and there, which would add up in usefulness over time. Or who knows, might be just the thing for a specific project. I'm sure the $50 option will present itself within the next year again, no rush really. But yes, it's tempting. Black Box HG-2MS for $45 is also tempting.

Hey Dan, I just used your code and wanted to say thanks. Have a great day, Mike Cheers, mike! It's not a single use code either, so they should still be good. I'm assuming the vouchers work with every account but I'm not 100% sure.

I have all the BW SSLs except the J and I think they are all good for a certain style of music. I think the HG-2MS is awful... just not usable for me.... there are better sounding options for me - such as the Klanghelm SDRR...

It sounds plastic. I’d rather just use sdrr 2 for warm or sizzly tubes, hygge for bright transformer type push, and fuse 2c for pushed clear tubes, radiator for fat gooey tubes, and decapitator/vintage warmer for a “clipped” sound.
