Hybrid... a good mix into LTL silver bullet via high quality conversion, and a touch of software limiting. Fab filter EQ very lightly or hardware Clariphonic EQ if needed before the limiter. That’s it. Occasionally add a hardware Buss comp after the SB if more glue is needed, but generally speaking, I keep the master buss as simple as possible, shaping and creating the sound “in” the mix, not “overtop” of the mix. That’s my approach.

ALL ITB: Depends on the music...but often a combination of SONNOX-Inflator / SPL-IRON / SPL-Mastering-EQ / SOFTUBE-TAPE .... I have different mix bus settings saved by style, which I can call up with one knob touch in the SLATE RAVEN.

For 2 buss I have 2 comps I choose from.
Stam buss with API or Heritage 609.
For groups Stam Mk1 VLA 2 AS SSL Transy DBX 902
For parallel I use the ua distressor. It is WICKED!

RND 5088 out with Capi VC528ML2, Chandler Curve Bender, and RND Master Buss Processor on the main mix insert.
On drum buss I've been using a Heritage Successor into the Iron Age Audio H9 pair.

All ITB here, but toying with the idea of trying out analog summing.
Currently using kind of a lot:
UAD 33609 or sometimes UAD API 2500 UAD pultec Brainworx v3 UAD Fairchild Decapitator Sometimes UAD Studer, less so Ampex Sonnox inflator, though starting to shift to TDL limiter
The only thing doing any seriously heavy lifting most of the time is the 33609 or 2500
Sometimes toss a brainworx shadow hills class A comp in there

Out of the Box for me. I have 2 regular chains lately. Option 1 is Elysia xfilter500 into Stam SA4000 and Option B is HRK EQ550p into Drawmer 1968ME both barely kissing the needles.

Since I’ve gotten the Stam 609, I’ve been mixing into it, going into the MusEQ master plug, UAD Manley Varimu and UAD ATR 102. Get it sounding really good and then Ozone 9 and maybe replace the limiter with Stealth Limiter. I use Tonal Balance with a custom setting to make sure I land within the boundaries.

I’m also considering a hardware SSL clone for my master buss, I just have Silver Bullet and Electrodyne 511 there, but I listened to A/B tests of the UAD and 500 series Xlogic SSL on youtube and could not tell the difference so I haven’t been able to rationalize it.
I’m wondering does anyone with an SSL clone have an opinion on the ITB ssl counterparts? It seems to be with slow attack time fast release to be indiscernible in various cases to me. Maybe it’s my ears but I hear way more difference in say a UA 1176 vs Hardware 1176 for example..
Because of this I’m leaning towards a stereo diode compressor or stereo vari mu. Buzz DBC, Vari Mu, Gyraf

Just a Nail and Equalux on the mix insert. I see some of these ITB 2-bus chains and realize I must be way under-qualified to mix ITB.

Izotope Tonal Balance is such a crucial tool for keeping on top of what's really happening as you progress through the mix. I absolutely rely on it.
