I could be wrong, but it seems to me, used mic prices have gone through the roof - esp for any kind of voiceover work - SM7, RE20, Heil PR40, etc.
I fully expect there to be a million of these mics on ebay and reverb in the next year or so. Anyone taking bets?

I don't have bet money. I'm saving it to exploit this coming downturn of used mics.

Probably 6 months to a year, the mid price range is weird. Some times people will just hold on to the mic because selling is such a pain.

Anyone taking bets? When Biden forces everybody back to work and ends the eviction moratorium. He wants to but a lot of Democrats don’t. Republican states already are. People are making more from unemployment than they did working. Soon all these people who spent their rent money on gear will have to fire sale or face evictions, collections, and the IRS asking where they got this expensive stuff! ATCs only got back in stock when they jacked prices 300-3000 dollars to make it so you couldn’t buy them with stimulus money. The Used monitor market is getting really good for some high end stuff but people still want 80% of retail for used stuff. Hell no. It’s like a car or action figure. Take it out of the box or drive it off the lot, value declines. Speakers break. 15 year old outdated model speakers are not worth 80% of the current improved version.

I'd venture the same about TLM103's and MKH416's as well.

IMHO overall it'll flatline, similar time line... To Dan's post. More people got into home recording, due to the Pandemic. Chris

Maybe I misunderstood you;I dont believe there are generally any restrictions on what you can do with your unemployment money. The IRS is not interested in whether you bought food or a home theater system. All they care about is whether or not you report all income and they get theirs. As to the issue of making more money sitting at home...as a small business owner that pays well, its true. I have no idea what they were thinking not tacking it to the cost of living if your state, or some sort of metric. The largest city near me has a median income of $36k. $600+state benefits a week? Forget work, I don't blame them. Economics is all incentives, and for poorer states that's too great of an incentive to give. My hard feelings are toward the people who drafted the bills, not those who spent the money. And that's the point anyway, get the money into the economy and give it a little bump. Oh well, it worked out how it did.

OK while the unemployment benefits may a minimal effect on what we are talking about here the biggest supply chain issues are from overseas vendors and their suppliers who are overseas. US unemployment benefits have nothing to do with a Switch that comes from Switzerland or a resistor from some where in Asia. I spent yesterday talking to a couple of very small esoteric speaker builders, problem #1 the price of wood. The demand for wood building products went up exponentially. Who do you think took priority from the suppliers somebody like ATC or Homedepot? In fact I know of at least 2 speaker companies that were paying retail at HD ( for lower quality wood ) just to fill orders
If you actually ask people who are not going back to work why they are not doing so you find out it’s a lot more complicated, but why oh why would we do that?

Wood prices seem to be stabilizing now according to friends in the construction industry. Shipping challenges coming from China? Not so sure. This might be a long term problem. It's just not cost effective to send a half empty container ship across the Pacific so as long as reducing trade deficit is a national priority here in the U.S., we may be looking at longer shipping times from the Far East.

On the mic front - I've got some I need to sell quick to help a family member.... Don't really want to sell em, not going to give em away, but they are on the chopping block. When I reach the amount I need, they are off the market :
(2) pair of vintage NEUMANN KM53 Omni's w/ AC701's (one new). I can't even find comps for these they are so rare.... ?? (2) pair of vintage NEUMANN KM140's (1) MK-U47. Beautiful mic. Custom made and tweaked with extra matched tubes. (1) Miktek CV4 lightly used
PM with an offer if anyone has any interest in these.

They are starting to, but most is still going to the biggest customers and what is coming in especially any specialty products was ordered at the higher prices. It’s not as much shipping, but everybody was shutdown, example a simple screw; the mines were shut down,so was the steal mill, then so was the manufacturer, the distributor… Each and every step takes time and people.

This is related to the higher prices and the used market going crazy. I came across this tweet from a pillow company talking about how much shipping costs have gone up in the last year and a half - pretty mind-blowing (this is for shipping one container from outside of Hong Kong to the US)
