In Chicago, besides electrical already mentioned, I'd go with Shirk Studios in Noble Square, or Gravity in Wicker Park

Add Narwal to your list. Brian Deck has been making great records in Chicago since the 90s. Consider Rax Trax as well. I recorded there when it was still Soundworks and they had just started building out the live room.

Howl Street Recordings! Shane is an amazing engineer, drummer and human! I even flew him out this way to help track my last band's LP. hell, you can use him at Electrical to track also if you wanna get that huge B room sound for less $$ www.howlstreetrecordings.com/

doesnt get much bigger than that Nope it doesnt but their analogue rock pedigree is world class, the studios acoustics are world class and you can cut an album for $1200 which is less than the cost of a semi decent mic.

Madison, first that come to mind, Audio for the Arts, nice piano nice room, not all that gear intensive but Buzz can pretty much handle anything. DNA Audio Labs, Brian started out at Smart.

Used to engineer at smart way back ... Thanks Everyone . Which Mike Zirkel? OK I’ll assume the AE with an album named after him ( shouldn’t every album be named after the AE) not the burn nurse 😁 I think my wedding was one of the first time they were in the same room. I’m not sure how much work Mike is doing these days, I left him a voicemail and I’ll probably PM you when I hear back.

Someone without the attitude ‘I can do everything now please tell me how to do it, YouTube ‘. Actually many of us here know our limitations. I’m always impressed when anyone is that forthright.

If you're willing to trek as far as Detroit I'd talk to Chris Koltay at highbiasrecordings.com/He's worked with all kinds of artists, but has worked with some impressive rock bands.
