Real thing my 11 year old daughter said to me this afternoon after asking me if she could help me set up the room drum mic trick discussed earlier. So this is pretty much the peak of life, right? Haha.
Also heard were "this is a lot cooler than just using GarageBand" and "I really like the way these electronics smell."
She gets it.

Dang, not so sure I want stop by your place on my way to Austin next weekend now with the Gefell for you try out. To all of my fellow RGO brethren, if you do not hear from me by Monday, June 14, please check to see if I was done in by an 11 year old gear junkie.

Reminds me of being at a friend's spot years ago when his son, about the same age busts into the room during band rehearsal and said with great enthusiasm... "it smells like music in here!"
Couple of sweaty guys, burning tubes... whiskey, and a pinch of weed.
Yeah, that's probably what music smells like.
Bit after that he asked dad for nice headphones for Christmas... good ones! Not beats they suck I want Sony's like you use in the studio!

Bit after that he asked dad for nice headphones for Christmas... good ones! Not beats they suck I want Sony's like you use in the studio! See now that just makes it all worthwhile. There is hope for the future! What's cool about these kids is they straight up don't give a s***, no preconceived notions. I was like "you gotta be careful with reverb, it's easy to overdo it" and she goes "yeah maybe, but I like overdoing it, that's what's fun about making my own stuff." Kind of interesting. This generation is growing up with the idea that sonic colors are as accessible as crayons, could end up being a pretty creative bunch in ten years. We're a long way from when I was trying to figure out how to use the reverb from my guitar amp as an insert in my old Tascam in high school. I never did figure that out by the way, just ended up re-amping all my vocals. And no, it didn't sound good at all but it was reverb, man! Just like on the old records!!

Since the studio closed I’m getting asked more-or-less the same thing but by people much older.
“Um so what are you thinking of doing with those Neumann KM84’s and Coles 4038’s and Neve pres?”... etc.
Apparently I must be so burdened by them the only solution is to give them away. 🙄

I'll take 'em off your hands if you're getting tired of storing them.

My buddy has 2 daughters. I remember at least 2 sessions when the oldest, who was about 3 at the time, would run in the control room and start pulling and repatching the patchbay, luckily nothing ever blew up and he said once or twice there'd be an interesting chain created. Another time the youngest came in, listened very close like she was going to give notes, then oh so casually raided the snacks set out before going back out to play, it was hilarious. Growing up in a studio must've really stuck as these days they're both in an all girl punk band that just played Kimmel so yeah, I have faith in this young generation.

My kids used to be like that when they were young. But they grew up and began to understand the hours required, the costs involved, and the fragile nature of the music business. Both chose radically different earning paths....

Both chose radically different earning paths.... Smart kids. maybe..... They are focused on earning X amount of dollars for X amount of hours. They still haven't learned the REAL secret of creating money streams the keep flowing with no X factor for the hours yet. . But yeah, they figured out the "studio" business pretty quick and it was hasta la vista baby...

My standard response is - Ok I'll add your number to the pile. Its already a foot high.

We're having a heat wave and my 11 year old daughter came in the house yesterday and said, "I love the way air conditioning smells!"

My standard response is - Ok I'll add your number to the pile. Its already a foot high. I have a Viet Hong guitar that's worth about 50 bucks, made in Vietnam. It's this total 'blues' thing, a wall hanger. Got it from a thrift store. Red fret dots, weird shaped sound hole, hand painted, twangy tone. People are always wanting to "have" it, I just laugh. Same with my old Supro Lexington. There's another one. This person that talks to me sometimes, I was talking about an envelope filter I built, they said, "You should just give me that." I had no response for that one.
