Was looking into getting two Daking Mic Pre 2s myself for a mobile rack. The meters and hpf would definitely come in handy. I can't decide if the output transformer version is worth the extra dough though, I feel like I've read statements from Geoff himself saying with this design the Jensen output transformers don't give you much.

All good: am not chasing a neve sound actually. The range of the pre you described sounds more like what I am interested in. Trying to get better gear, but want higher quality and versatility. Likewise. This is the first time I've been interested in this pre.

I love my “regular” Dakings mic pre IIs. Total game changers in starting to put some polish on my tracking. ETA: Saving the $1000 on not getting transformer versions would get you within striking distance of being able to purchase a Daking Comp II as well if you were so inclined.

Mulling over the Jensen documentation (very quickly may I add) they do appear to be rather clean, ironically the more expensive or subjectively "superior" mic / line transformers have a flatter "and broader" frequency range, lower THD, "head room" meaning they can take a hotter signal before saturating and of course some (Unity) offer shielding from things like hum from outside power supplies. So if one is looking for that vintage harmonic distortion (and the rest, like noise) then yes, these aren't probably what you'd be looking for (hence Geoff's recommendation).
