Yeah but you can’t dither float to float rounding. I have no idea what that means.
Sometimes I feel like there's two types of audio "engineers". There's guys that talk in strictly in musical terms and guys that can talk in computer terms. Do I need to know how to do both? Do I need to know that I can't dither float to float rounding, or what the hell that even means?
Yes you do! The AE has always been the guy who has to bridge the artistic and technical world. It’s one of the toughest and never ending part of the job. The good news is that as our world has become more IT based so has everybody else’s.

Right, but there is a lot of stuff that is fun fodder for armchair DSP quarterbacking but has absolutely no impact on an audio guy's job making records.
