Would like to get a diode bridge compressor for some punch on some vocals, bass and electric guitar probably used in tracking, the rnd 5254 is really expensive but if great will splurge for one, would be nice on mix buss also, as I have the portico mix buss compressor and it’s great. ‘I heard it’s a great compliment. ‘but wondering if the rnd 535 500 series would work as well for tracking? I am also a fan of buzz audio, tim makes great stuff, have a soc 2.0 and amazing to track with, heard wonderful things about the dbc 20, and for stereo compressor the price is wonderful. Anyone have any experience using these products for tracking or mix buss?

I've never used the RND compressors but I have used 2254's a few times, and I own the DBC 20. As far as tone goes the DBC is much cleaner sounding that the 2254's (which are tone machines imho). The actual compression character of the DBC is very transparent, fast, and can nail down a wild vocal like nobody's business. It acts more like a vari-mu, but more extreme, than a diode bridge comp IME. It works well as a bus compressor, it can add a nice glue, or completely crush, depending what you're after. I've never gotten it to pump, but I've never tried. The build quality is top notch btw.
I'm really happy with my DBC, but if you're after a 2254/33609 type compressor the DBC-20 is not it, nor does it try to be.
