+1. Not a peep about it... Come on, johneppstein , what's your verdict on it? The Heiserman has been excellent in the very limited uses I've had so far. Recording has been at a standstill throughout the pandemic. Hoping to get back in the saddle soon.
Similarly, I haven't had much chance to use the U48 except for a few test tracks.

Fair enough. Thanks for sharing!!

Very interested in the FET 47 after learning its Derek Truck's go to mic on acoustic and electric guitars in the studio; I adore his sound, playing and taste so I'm curious about the FET for guitar mainly; while I know its a mainstay on kick and bass, I'm wondering what to expect from it as a guitar mic both on acoustic and electric; seems I rarely see it used on guitars, though seeing it used on Derek makes me wonder if there's some magic there. Any thoughts?

I recently watched a 1979 documentary on Rockpile called “Born Fighters”. Recording vocals in the studio the lead vocal was always a 47 fet. Whoever was singing harmony was on an u87 it looked like.

At around 1000 - 1200 USD used the Gefell UM70 is such a better mic. AGREED! I often use the UM70 as FOK mic, and with Fig-8, it's often a better choice than a card only mic like the FET. Yeah guys I have said it before but what in the past has always kept me from grabbing a 47fet at reasonable prices has always been how many Gefells could that buy me? Now add in Heisermann and UT I’m so glad I have passed. The 47fet is weird in that someone will always Grab it thinking it’s a cheap 47, it becomes their go to vocal mic, they tell customers they have a 47, guy books studio, guy pissed because it’s a FET. Guy puts on the market, names change but it keeps repeating.

Not for what I use them for. I had 2 vintage ones 1 black and 1 silver and they only got used on low frequencies- bass, kick. Now I’m happy to use a TG, a Horch fet, a UT or even an AA. They all work just as well even on guitar cabs. The vintage ones are a gamble for sure.

At one time I had two vintage U47 FET's to use and my Soyuz 0-19 FET. I personally wouldn't use a 47 FET for vocals if you paid me to do so. The same went for two vocalists who tried them and couldn't wait for me to put up the Soyuz and get to work.
I'm sure it's great to have on bass or kick drum, but some of the clones get so close, I think it should be considered a luxury to have a vintage 47 FET relegated to bass or kick drum.
People who got them years ago at fair prices are lucky, but to spend that much on a reissue, no thanks.

I personally wouldn't use a 47 FET for vocals if you paid me to do so. As much as I love the 47 FET sound on kick/bass (and it is undeniably awesome), I don’t really want to purchase a clone just for kick drum duty, there’s a hardness to the various vocal samples that I don’t connect with, and my mic locker is still pretty small. I am interested in which all-rounder LDC folks are using for kick out instead? The Soyuz Bomblet, Lauten Clarion, Heiserman 19, Austrian OC16 and new Vanguard v4 gen2 are current contenders for me. I’ve also wondered whether a Warbler mk2 could get the job done for much less coin. I wouldn’t mind that living on a kick drum for under 300 dollars!

On the bang for the buck for just kick I know a couple of guys who bought used Warm fets and you can’t wipe the grins from their faces.

No love here for the Lawson 47FET? I got one after hearing some folks say they’re damn close to the original. I got both mine for good prices. Dunno if I need 2 but def great for outside kick and have found success with vocals sometimes.
Also worth considering (maybe) a Soundelux U195. Not the same thing but works very well on outside kick and can be a real dark horse vocal mic (was my #1 a long while). The switches make it a bit more versatile also. Killer guitar amp mic, too. Hell, I think I’d gladly make an entire record only using U195s!

I've yet to find another mic that bests the 47 FET on KO, but beyond that I can't say its my first choice for anything. It's nice on acoustic guitar and bass, although I usually prefer a dynamic on the latter for a little more punch. I do not particularly like it on vocals.

Would love to hear more about the Vanguard V4 gen 2. Thanks! (And Chris - now that you are testing the Beesneez 67 - I am curious if you ever checked out the Vanguard V13.)

Lawson FET is a great mic, probably my favorite 47fet clone, but most end up with the tube electronics living at the bottom of the head and it gets forgotten as a kick mic.

Those folks need to have the problem that I do - buy the 47FET first, the tube 47 second and then a 251/47 combo kit with both bodies!

Would love to hear more about the Vanguard V4 gen 2. Thanks! (And Chris - now that you are testing the Beesneez 67 - I am curious if you ever checked out the Vanguard V13.) Haven't checked out the V4 or V13 yet. The V13 has further impressive videos on the Josh Turner Guitar YT Channel. IMHO the BU67 is more obviously an Olde Skool tube mic. Like a 67. Unfortunately, we've been having 90+ Degree weather here in Orange County. And leaving a beautiful mic set up in the car unattended (due to work)-Let alone in the heat... Isn't an option. But if I have enough energy tonight, I'll grab the BU67 set up from home. And do some more recording. Chris P.S. I like the 47 FET on me. But prefer the 47/67 style tube mics.

I am curious if you ever checked out the Vanguard V13.) I have one here - it’s a great mic. Very flattering on vocals and acoustic, which are the only things I’ve properly tracked with it so far. I would love to get a second one - I can imagine a pair on piano or rooms being really nice.
