I'm a Sonar Works 4 user and have been following the long and complaint-filled threads regarding the latest upgrade/rebranding (SoundID?) People are saying it was released while still in BETA, windows 10 users are having a lot of issues with clicks/pops and profiles resetting and the upgrade price is really high for what seems to be mostly the rebranded GUI, the re-addition of things they removed from SW4 (targets of other speakers to emulate them) and a couple other things - some of which do seem cool like the ability to only correct what you want and to have different correction for different outputs. The initial upgrade for previous owners was $119 but they have now lowered it to $89 for the Studio+Headphones. The previous upgrade from SW3 to SW4 was like $19! I really like SW4 but am waffling on upgrading. I see a lot of people in that thread talking about dSONIQ's Realphones and I was curious if anyone had any thoughts on it? I just downloaded the demo so I'm nowhere near making any sort of decision on it. It only does headphone correction (not speakers) and, if you'd like, it adds a "studio" sound and crossfeed, and speaker emu and all that. They have a ton of headphone models and seem to keep adding them (in a cheeky move, they even included Slate's VSX phones so you can compare his software with theirs). I have read posts from the company admitting it's too tweaky for most users and they plan to release a simplified option soon. It works as a plugin and system wide, just like SW4 It's got to be the most generous demo I've ever seen. 41 days and includes 3 headphone models of your choice AND you can renew the demo every 6 months. It's $99 for the "pro" level that includes 3 headphones of your choice and $179 for the one with unlimited headphone models but apparently they just had a 50% off sale so my plan is to work with it alongside SW4 for a month to see what I think in hopes a sale comes around again. Anyone else trying/using it? Here's the link: www.dsoniq.com/

I have and like Realphones. I also have Sonarworks 4. I haven't used it since getting Realphones. I won't be getting the upgrade to SoundID. I can sometimes get SW4 to be close to RP but usually it's when I dial the mix slider down 50% or less. Realphones I usually run around 70-80%. I like the Mix-phones settings for my profiles. It even makes my Sennheiser HD280Pros useable. SW4 made them sound weird. I normally use Sony 7506s or Focal Spirit Pros. I'm thinking hard about getting some Audeze LCD-1s now. It's got a great demo but for 50% off it's a no-brainer to me. I do still use SW4 for my monitors. Just not headphones anymore.

It’s day 1 for me and I mixed something on the default MIX “Normal” setting - resisting the urge to tweak - and then played it on my monitors corrected by SW4 and it translated really well. I was surprised as there is definitely an initial “wow, this sounds weird” not being used to it, but I’m already leaning where you are: RP for cans, SW for monitors. Funnily enough, before I saw the SoundID thread I had started contemplating getting LCD-1’s (currently have ATH-M50x that I bought “calibrated” through SW and Sennheiser HD600) and that’s kind of what led me on the path where I found Realphones.

Yeah I'm torn between HD600 and LCD-1s, HD600 is the perennial best all-rounder but I'm too curious about the LCD-1.

Realphones basically revolutionized the way I mix. Not an exaggeration. I can get results at home comparable to what i get at my studio, and I've found it's made mixing a record between the two locations much, much simpler and more predictable.

Curious what you are using - preset? Tweaked preset or totally made your own? So far I’ve been on the MIX / nearfield dropping the ambience to about 80% from 100 for most of the mix but checking it on others... I have to admit there have been a couple of times when I actually stopped to see if the vocal was actually coming out of my monitors - spooky!

At first, I was using SonarWorks at home, which was OK, but not great. When I got Realphones, I was using their 650 setting, which I tweaked to suit my tastes. But for the last few months, I've combined the two: Realphones > Sonarworks, and I'm getting the best results of the three scenarios.

I have SW4 and am going to try this! So when you go RP > SW do you fully disable the RP correction and only use it for the room? Thanks so much for sharing

Thanks so much for sharing There's actually a setting within RP that's meant for feeding into SW. It's a calibration profile called "SonarWorks Reference". I ended up liking that because there's a much wider variety of headphone profile options in SW (eg - they specifically have the 6xx model, so I didn't need to compromise by using RP's 650 profile), plus, you don't have to pay a la carte for other sets of cans. I have a few that I use between home and my studio, and it's nice to be able to fire up whatever I need in SW. But the room simulation in RP, and the customizability, is far, far superior. Thus, the combo lends the most effective range of options.

I can’t seem to find it as an option in the RealPhones plugin

Bumping this to say that they have just released a new version of this with an "EASY" Mode with far less options to adjust (you can still use the old, advanced model) and also they are having a 45% off sale until 6/15 and offer a 41 day trial.
