My buddy asked me what interface should he should buy. He's never used a DAW or an interface, but he's a pro video producer and will learn quickly.
He'll mainly record one track at a time in Logic. There are many decent choices now, Focusrite (not my preference), SSL, the new BLA Revolution, Audient, maybe a UAD piece, but they're pricey and he really just needs the basics for demos.
Between $150 and $350, which interface would you recommend?

IMHO Motu M2 ought to be fine. Other than the minimal metering, the Tascam 2X2HR is nice too. Chris

That Black Lion is probably great.

In that case, I don't think it matters. He should just grab whatever he can find a good deal on. Something with a warranty and a driver that won't give him a headache.

I would go with Motu M2, Audient iD4 or SSL 2. Any of these will sound great and be reliable enough.
Or even the Audient Evo, I don't know them, but looks like something for someone like your friend.

I'd probably go with the MOTU M2 or M4. I haven't tried the Black Lion yet, it's about twice the price.
SSL2 is good also but it's SUPER BRIGHT, and that's something you're committed to when you step into that box.
Either of these is a step up from a 2i2. Audient is not really my jam, but they are fine. I might grab a Steinberg UR-C interface before an Audient, not sure.

Recently I've read the Audients are not too durable. Indeed, also my id14 has lost its second mic channel and the buttons on the top work only after a few tries.

I'm not familiar with any Motu product, but I'll look around. I'm kind of thinking either SSL or maybe the BLA. I bet the BLA will sound good. It's most important that it's easy to use. Something like UAD's Console would probably be a PITA for my friend.

Are their Drivers any better?
I have a Mackie Blackjack Onyx w/PC... And they were a PITA, to get working. Chris

I have the motu M4 for field recording and such. It's worked great and sounds fine.

Motu m2 or m4 would get my vote for an inexpensive interface.

What's cool about some Interfaces, like the M2/M4 is...
They have the "Loopback" feature, where you can record "internally". Meaning within the computer's playback, in addition to the incoming source.
For someone like me, who plans to create a lot of backing tracks to practice with, a great feature. Chris
