Saw it a few months ago. Yeah, sobering do doubt. In light of current political and social issues, it all starts to make a lot of sense. Feel sorry for the kids....

Saw it and I think it depends on how one uses social media. It gets dangerous when kids start to believe this is the way to live. I have two 14 year olds in my mind they meet to not talk or doing something together they meet to stare in their phone screens.
I told the parents that I am not against new media but I still believe that real live human contacts are essential to grow up. Sometimes parents feel criticized, verbally attacked.
I thought that keeping an eye on the well being of my kid guitar students is part of my job, because the parents give the ones they love the most in custody.
I am very very grateful for that the most parents are still thankful for a hint.

Here's another way it gets toxic. This is on the news, twitter etc . . . about how President Biden's hands moving through a microphone is just an optical illusion, or a conspiracy depending on who you believe . . . well...

I dumped Faceberg a few years ago and have never had a Shitter or Instasham account. I see my friends teenage girls completely brainwashed by social media which they live about 90% of their lives through. It’s mostly emotionally destructive and his youngest who is six spends all of her time when not at school or asleep glued to an iPad.

Here's another way it gets toxic. This is on the news, twitter etc . . . about how President Biden's hands moving through a microphone is just an optical illusion, or a conspiracy depending on who you believe . . . well... Toxic information is a big problem in social media. Many politicians made use of this misleading information tool to be elected.
I think the western world suffers from a big perception distortion, and it's time to talk to each other with respect and dignity.
In this context:
If you haven't listened to the Springsteen Obama Podcast "Renegades" yet, don't miss it its very inspirational the topics are very well laid out, and they talk about issues which touch the whole western community.
If we fail in the future we have a big problem.
I have to admit that I am a bit biased, because I like the calm manner of both. I like that both are very wealthy, but they use their money for community projects.
Both don't live their lives on a too large scale. Both taught their kids that they do not live an average live, that being wealthy is the exception and not the rule.
Both seem to have wisdom which may comes with age? Well produced, topics are well researched.

I watched The Social Dilemma on documentary torrent site tonight and would recommend. There were some points in there that were pretty interesting like how they said some of the conspiracy crap was being driven by their recommendation engine rather than just shares. I thought it was more of the latter. Agreed that its hard to find truth these days and that AI can't deliver that. Its kind if obvious that we have a massive propaganda war going on thats supercharged by these internet tools. Anyway would recommend most of the people here give it a watch even if you understand the social media model pretty well as there were some interesting and thoughtful comments.

ray - I saw the doc. Agree. I think it's a must see IMO. Scary stuff as you stare down the future.....
Social media and normal media are pretty much beyond recovery at this point IMO. I sure hope I am wrong.
I don't care which side of the middle you fall on, without truth and legitimate debate we are ultimately doomed in the US. Just saw where one of the heads of CNN said on interview that he joined CNN because (paraphrasing cause I don't have the quote at the tip of my fingers) CNN is a propaganda machine (his words not mine) and the main tool which took Trump out of office. Come on.... I thought it was Cable NEWS Network.... If you want to hate Trump - GO FOR IT!! But I don't want the "news" relegated to commentary and lies to get one political viewpoint into power - or out of power. I just want a degree of truth and honest reporting.

I recommend that as many as possible watch this Adam Curtis series ‘The Century of the Self’. It should be mandatory viewing for the young and old alike. Modern public relations was the peacetime adaption of wartime propaganda perfected by Edward Bernays who just happened to the nephew of Sigmund Freud. What is frighteningly obvious is how Silicon Valley and big tech have taken Bernays legacy and weaponised it beyond what even Bernays could have imagined. Get your kids to watch this.
Part 1.
Part 2.
Part 3.
Part 4.

I've been wanting to watch The Social Dilemma but haven't had time with school work. Well, it's assigned for a tech/ethics class so now it IS homework. I'm excited (in a gross way because I know I'll be depressed by it) to watch it.
My wife is a professor and teaches/does research about all this stuff so the overarching themes are well-trodden topics for us. I'm glad I'll get to see the doc though.

I'm glad I'll get to see the doc though. Aside from the content material, I thought the doc itself was well done. Very innovative film making IMO.

SNIP Holy shitballs that was fascinating!! And yes, it should be mandatory for all to watch this. "I am very interested in social developments in America. The President has chosen the right path. We are dealing with the greatest social problems ever known. Million must get their jobs back and this cannot be left to private initiative. It is the government must tackle the problem. " WOW.

Look at the bright side. CNN got caught telling project veritas that they willfully produce propaganda and their aim has been to destroy the careers of certain politicians.
Wait.. There is no bright side.

We all know that every. single. one. is doing it. We should be shutting them all down for the propaganda they spew but people will defend it as "end justifies the means" and not realize nor care about the bigger picture of being pawns in a game as long as their confirmation bias is being fulfilled. They always said that a republic is destroyed from within.

Cancel Culture gone berserk. I'm more than happy to let opposing views live freely. All I can hope for is that the courtesy is returned.

CNN is crickets on Charlie Chester’s propaganda confession. Opposing views will not only not be tolerated, they will be silenced.

And Twitter just banned James O'keefe of project veritas because of the CNN expose'. PV is suing twitter and has never lost a case against any of the media groups they've sued.

Both sides of the media cater to their ‘tribes’ (who they have actively helped to create) which results in clickbait headlines denigrating the other side to drive profits, and lies by omission in order not to piss off their existing audience/subscription base which have been brainwashed into believing everything they are told by their chosen news source is true. This has created an environment where most only listen to and associate with those they agree with who remain inside their partisan bubble of confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance. The result is the most divided society I have seen in my lifetime and is in large part responsible for the burning cities and rampant ideologically based violence we have seen and which is destined to get far worse based upon the current trajectory because those in power (whether elected or not) will use this to their own advantage by “Never letting a crisis go to waste.”
