Hi great people. Anyone used the Audio D-comp and compared it to other diode comps. I have the Buzz and the Heritage. Feel free to convince me I need a third! I love audioscape and if there is something different about the D-comp, I want to check it out. I already have way too many compressors anyway. So, I am starting to think that I may as well have way more! (Especially before I start gear therapy.)

I would like to hear more about the D-comp versus other diode compressors! I suppose I can take the plunge and find out first hand! But I thought someone may have done some comparisons. (Maybe it is on the site here somewhere and I just missed it!)
(I should mention that I also checked out the BAE 10dc diode comps and they were fantastic!!!! So, if the Audio-scape is by some chance comparable - it is a super-bargain!!!)

I saw something saying the D Comp is based on a Chandler comp, but I thought it was Neve based. Can someone shed some light on this?

The D comp sounds a helluva lot like my TG-1. It sounds nothing at all (not even a little) like my 33609 or BAE 10DCFs. That, plus the faceplate, plus its specific functionality (comp, limit, and thd modes) suggest it is very much Chandler-inspired.

What makes the D-Comp delightful? It's got teeth. It clamps down which makes it hella cool with drum overheads, room mics and drum buss. Is it the same as other Diode comps? No . . . it's kind of got a Neve heritage but it isn't related to any Chandler products. Chandler products are deeply respected by everyone at audioscape, as are Tube-Tech and many other modern designs. To be compared is an HONOR as those products are jaw-dropping amazing in quality and performance. In my own personal work, I'm over the moon about the Audio-Scape products I have . . . hope you guys are too! Remember: You can buy and try. If you don't like something, you can send it back. If it has a problem, you're covered. I've never experienced this level of customer commitment for these types of products. Absolutely Sincerely!

Could anyone compare the D-Comp to the RND 535s? I’m assuming the D-Comp gets a lot more colorful if it has a dedicated THD mode.

Like...LOVE it. It’s also excellent on bass. I have a pair but but I use one on vocals so often that I’m just gonna sell the second one cuz I’m sad to always make it a mix orphan. Hahaha.

Hi great people. Anyone used the Audio D-comp and compared it to other diode comps. I have the Buzz and the Heritage. I'd love to get your thoughts on the Buzz vs the Heritage 609. Both are kinda on my radar & mostly for the 2 mix... I dig the 33609 there but geez it's a lotta tacos. And if were going to spend in that range Manley vari mu could get the nod. Among other boxes. Im aware of Scam Audio but they definitely aren't an option...

Im aware of Scam Audio but they definitely aren't an option... The buzz is great and on the clean side. The heritage is great and definitely on the color side. But I have to say, for color, I am very impressed with the D-comp. They are all different. Would I want the Heritage on the 2 buss? Probably not. I would put it on some instruments or vocals, but I would not want the entire mix through it. The buzz can handle that well. But if I could only have one, it would be the D-comp. I very rarely get a piece of gear and have that wow factor right away. The D-comp did that. The audioscape opto did that. The Gyraf G22 did that and is very versatile. Just my thoughts.

With no disrespect intended to Ward or to the Audio Scape crew (seriously I love you guys), I have this sneaking suspicion that the vehement denials about the Chandler / D-Comp lineage have some basis in legal mumbo jumbo. Which is totally fine and I respect that.
But man oh man can i dial in my D Comp to sound an AWFUL LOT like my TG-1. I guess Abbey Road can sue me or whatever.🤷🏻♀️

Ab, I'm considering an opto purchase and have been eyeing the Buzz SOC or Essence, or Audioscape Opto or V3A which I believe you've tried/owned some of these, which would you pick if you had to do it over? My priority is tracking vocals atm.. thx for any suggestions!

SNIP And if were going to spend in that range Manley vari mu could get the nod. Among other boxes. Bruv, sometimes I can't gel with a piece of gear and the Vari-Mu was one. I had mine for a few years. A few years of trying to make it work. Patching it in, patching it out, so it just occupied a lot of space and tied up capital. Much MUCH happier with the audioscape V-Comp. It Mu-ves me. But this is a thread about the super-calla-fraga-listic Audioscape D-Comp. Diodes to Diodes, you won't find a better buy.

A Stam product would be nice, but I just don’t have 2 to 3 years to wait...bummer! I might have a few left next month after I deliver all pre-orders (33609). Feel free to email me and I will send you a message when/if I have some in stock. You are free to try one and return it within 30 days if you are not satisfied.
