I not really sorry I sold mine. I considered it nice sounding, but ultimately just a utility preamp. I'm definitely happier now to have less choices. These days we have 40 channels of preamp, but only 3 real choices, API, Neve "style", and an ADL 600. We still have one utility preamp, a 8 channel audient, used mostly for talkback mics or trigger inputs. We kept it mainly because it's 8 channels in one rack space, not because it was better than the Sytek. Yea, that's how most people hear them. Maybe I am weird, but that plain honesty that bores most kind of makes me grin because of it's apparent lack of euphony. The song and sounds must stand on their own to be enjoyed, not because "damn that's a great drum sound".
I also like my color, though, for sure. Less choices is a great thing, though. I need to whittle down at some point. But really I have 3 main categories. CAPI for my API ish family of sound which I see as "jumping out of the speaker and solid with a bit of color depending on how I run it", my DRS preamps for that "slightly Neve but really its own thing/thicker" kind of vibe, and my IAA QPP/Hardy/RPQ camp that is "varying amounts of very clean with magic dust on it".
