Cool. Hopefully it's not just a HUI controller.. So if HUI means human user interface.. What else could it be but a human user interface?

Cool. Hopefully it's not just a HUI controller.. Hopefully has a submixer built-in and some usable preamps or strips, and a monitor control section? Like an upgrade to the digidesign C|24? I'm overdue.

Hopefully it's not like the last one which was totally overpriced.... You know it will be. At least the current SSL branded stuff doesn't have junk inside.

Cool. Hopefully it's not just a HUI controller.. It will be, because EUCON the only other standard for control surfaces insnt licensed out by AVID!

Another brilliant business decision by our friends at AVID! You ever see the Simpson's episode where Homer has an elephant and someone says "I'd pay anything to see your elephant" then they cut to Homer hammering in a sign saying "GO AWAY"? That's Avid.

Depends, SSL came out with a whole line of lower priced gear, so it's possible they could be aiming for a low price again, but from the look of that screenshot, it'll be kilobucks, as usual.

I guess I never understood the controller thing. I just moved the mixer out of the studio because I found working ITB to be faster and easier. Moving a trackball and using keyboard shortcuts is a lot faster than reaching for faders and pushing menu buttons 20 times to flip through all your settings..

I love my trackpad which works cool under logic X

Trackball in left hand, Magic Mouse in right hand. Might have to look into a trackpad now that I have a hair more real estate on my desk.

Moving a trackball and using keyboard shortcuts is a lot faster than reaching for faders and pushing menu buttons 20 times to flip through all your settings.. It's absolutely impossible to ride tracks in a proper way with a mouse. That said, having only one fader would probably be enough to me. I wish Avid would make something like the faderport.

Moving a trackball and using keyboard shortcuts is a lot faster than reaching for faders and pushing menu buttons 20 times to flip through all your settings.. I find a single fader to be enough to cover 99% of my needs. For those times when you want to ride the volume in real time. But what I really wish more people would do is incorporate "jog wheel" type rotary controls that are user definable. The steinberg controller has a function where the rotary control will control any parameter that your mouse is hover over. I think the audient interfaces do this too. Its super useful and quick and allows you to control sooo much more without hassling with midi mapping etc. Especially things like automating pan controls, synth filter sweeps etc.

Unless a controller is HIGHLY integrated with their respective DAW, like the stuff from Avid or Presonus, they all have their shortcomings and compromises. In which case, why pay SSL $2k or $3k for a controller that is functionally and basically no better than a $500 Behringer?
