how did you like these? They've been on my list for a long time to try out. Al Schmitt likes them a lot.

Hey there thanks for touching base. I really liked the weight that transformers bring to the AT5045 sound. ITs a subtle weight and not overbearing. When comparing the KM84 you can hear the Neumann transformer adding a bit more influence to there timbre. Not so sure I like it as much. Its interesting because when you hear this now you think a little less of the km84’s then you did before.
The AT5045s are clearer, its like the clouds have cleared and you can perceive things a little better, They reveal more. But they seem to have an even sound Across the spectrum. Certainly not brittle, extended could apply here. The lows are not over powering. I dont hear a smiley face curve, just an even ness.
The Cardioid pattern is not as wide as the KM84’s.I think the AT5045 work well for close up micing. It has less boom, The dispersion of the sweet spot is also not as wide. The rejection of the side and back is exceptional.
The volume/sensitivity of the mics is on par with the KM84 but those Soyuz 013 fets are way more sensitive. I think you could nearly bypass a preamp and go straight into a compressor with those Soyuz’s.
I have too many SDC’s at the moment with Neuman, Soyuz, Beyer, Beesneez, Miktek (which are surprisingly nice enough), AKG and probably a few other boxes sitting in the garage I have not looked in for a few years. And I want to try one of the Z-Mod mics. So these 2 x AT5045 are up for sale. Hope that helps.

That's the big hole in my mic collection at this moment and I'd love to rectify it with something good. Especially something good but used. ...and even more preferably from a human I've interacted with on a forum so I know they can't be THAT difficult to deal with!
