Do any of the usual Mac interface suspects allow low latency monitoring of cue mixes through 3rd party AU plugins? PACE ones?
I'll explain why if there is one. I think Apogee might, but I don't know for sure.

Luna is running 3rd part plugs, do you want me to check?
I could try a demo of whatever plug in you want, if I don’t have it ?

I think Apogee might, but I don't know for sure. If I’m understanding your question correctly, Don, I believe the answer is no. Are you thinking of whether some system (a la MIO Console/Mixer) can host 3rd party AUs via DSP? Some Apogee interfaces can do this, but only with Apogee-branded plugins, I believe (so not 3rd party). Obviously Carbon can do this with AAX-DSP plugins. Your best bet would be to use an ultra low latency audio interface (Thunderbolt) and run it at as low a buffer setting as your computer can handle, ideally 32 or 64.

Something thunderbolt or pcie (or RME on usb) on a powerful computer with zero latency plugins. The PSP Infinistrip is the best zero latency native channel strip I’ve heard, better than McDSP and Metric Halo, but still has some issues. Of course with a powerful enough computer, you can always run them at higher sampling rates, which reduces aliasing and latency but increases cpu load

Don, I don’t think anybody can do this. I think part of the problem is the AU developers lic agreement forbids it.

Here's why I want it. I'm REALLY digging the Slate VSX headphones. I wasn't going to dive into those, maybe Steven cried "virtual" one too many times, despite always wanting what it does, but my wife gifted me just about the exact price of them for my birthday, so I went ahead.
They're terrific. The stereo soundfield is totally authentic. You can make valid mix decisions with them, and reference many playback systems without taking them off. Plus, at this point I do not want to listen to normal headphones again for pleasure. I've got the AU plugin across Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack and Spotify and Apple Music go through the VSX all the time. Same with Digital Performer of course.
What I want to do is use it with audio sending into the DAW. I want to listen to my voice, for instance, as well as DAW playback, while I record as if I was sitting in the control room of Archon Studios. I'd have to have the VSX plugin run on an audio interface for low latency monitoring. I think I could make better decisions about mic pre drive, eq and compression with the VSX than I can with normal cans going in. But I can't figure out how to do it.
An interface that could use AU or VST plugs including PACE protected ones before it went to a computer would be something people might want. I want it anyway.

I’m sure he either hasn’t thought of this & would love to implement or is half way thru implementation & u can Beta test. Maybe a check for you as well if he hasn’t thought of this idea to have VSX implemented real time via daw recording & cue mix ( if I understand your wants correctly )

If you have a computer that can handle it, that would easily put your latency down to where you could monitor your inputs through your DAW’s mixer, which would solve Don’s problem as I understand it. Only other solution is if Steven released an AAX-DSP version to use in a Pro Tools environment.

It's a little disappointing that the version of Immerse Virtual Studio that comes bundled with Carbon is AAX native only, an AAX DSP version would be great for monitoring this way during tracking.

What your basically talking about is a poor mans PT carbon here, a programming or DSP guy might be better suited on this one, but last night as I was trying to sleep I thought of one other thing, AU or VST code might not work on DSP. That was always AVIDs reason why TDM/ HD / Live and HDX plugins cost more. Extra cost to develop for a second format with a smaller market. Now if PT carbon was half the price I would say just go in that direction, but it’s not. If all the various interface manufacturers including onboard were smart they would all get together and agree on a standard for DSP based plugins but I suspect many see a benefit it in the sale of dedicated plugins.

Running the plug in on Vienna on a second computer should do the trick.... edit but not for tracking...

Hi, I am a user as well. try Audio Hijack from: rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/It ws one of Slate's recc's. I purchased it there. It allows you to create AU modules in its interface so you can use any plugin on any audio out. dosa

Update on my VSX monitoring. Audio Hijack works great with VSX for MacOS system and app monitoring, but it adds too much latency to be useful for monitoring inputted audio into a DAW at any buffer setting.
Monitoring audio inputted to Digital Performer with VSX on the master fader is better, but VSX only works at 32 sample buffer or greater. At 16, it just spazzes, even though the DAW can run a 16 buffer when you disable VSX. I tried it both on Metric Halo ULN-8 and Apollo Twin. Even at 32 buffer, there's some ticks coming from the ULN-8. I did use VSX at 64 buffer to audition live vocal settings of my STAM 1073 and AudioScape 1176a. I might not want to sing without direct hardware monitoring, but listening to my voice through the VSX's speaker/room let me tweak the drive and comp settings into the DAW more as if I were the recording engineer in the control room and not the talent in the live room with cans.
I think the VSX can be useful in that regard, as well as in mix down. I wish I'd had it when I recorded vocals for BOC's record, I think I'm getting a better sound going in now.
If Slate could implement the VSX into his VRS8 interface at negligible latency, it might be worth having it for that alone.

I’ve been really wanting UA to Implement room correction in console - and if they did, you would think virtual environments wouldn’t be far behind.

All previous attempts at virtual room/speakers I've checked out have been half-assed. VSX is convincing.
I can imagine future implementation of this tech for realistic VR gaming and even Zoom type meetings in a future where it's not possible, or safe or secure enough to actually be in the same room with someone. Prisoner visitation? Shut ins? Nursing homes? Long distance romance? Virtual cosplay? VR amusement parks?

Certainly room correction and/or virtual mix/track spaces would a big interface selling point for all those bedroom studios out there.

I would love RME if I could run a mix comp and room correction as well as dither on their DSPs. My guesswork is they just need to invent a plug in for this....
