If you know any jewelers you might be able to get hooked up with a custom silver or copper badge. That's what I have on my little baby Claire: View AttachmentView AttachmentI believe Eric was a jeweller.

Hey all, The Heiserman 251 will come with a Heiserman badge.. like Dave mentioned we may change the look... I personally am on the fence. If you don’t like the badge you can pull it I guess.. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Eric I can see that, I like the logo, but it doesn’t sit right on a vintage style mic. Maybe try something more vintage on the vintage inspired models and the current logo your original designs? That's pretty much what I was getting at. To me, the impression I get when looking at the "H" logo is ultra modern. I don't know why. I think it just says 'digital' to me, maybe because all the dots remind me of something? If I think about it long enough, I may be able to articulate it better. But, my opinion on this probably (definitely) doesn't matter, so I'll just say that this is a killer looking, old school 'classic' looking mic, and I'd prefer something along those lines in terms of a mic badge. But that's just me.

I think the Heiserman logo looks great. Stylish, strong but not garish, clean, distinctive.

Yes I was a jeweler in another life... 😬😬😬 Don’t worry folks. We will make sure it looks right! I am not sold on the badge as is either. It’s a bit to big and is sitting a touch high on the mic... the Heiserman team has a few ideas floating around. Rest assured it will be on brand and look good...

IMHO "Art Deco" style could make a nice supplemental influence. I always dug the RCA Logo, with the Lightning Bolt. (Cue Kate Smith/"God Bless America") Chris

I'll never forget the "blue meth" version, that's a great color.

Dude, I dig the logo as well! It’s definitely very cool, I was just saying it struck me as a modern looking badge on a vintage looking mic, that’s all. Can’t wait to hear more about this mic!

They would have to change the name to HEISERMANN for that style to work.

If you don’t like the badge you can pull it I guess.. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Eric You may want to consider shrinking it a little and inverting the color so most of it is metal is with the “H” black. That would give it more of a vintage look.

Wouldn't it be easier to shrink the badge... Rather than the microphone? Chris

Well someone from this shootout might have an observation since some mics had shockmounts, some didn't.
That makes me feel better about the funky look of my RCA BK-11A in a shock, with it's lonely stock mount sticking up awkwardly. I observe a need for proper Rycotes! : ) Especially if going horizontal for drum overhead use. Which isn't what that pic is about. Vocals without a shock and drums without a shock are an entirely different matter. Same goes for vocals when there are drums anywhere nearby. OR a bass amp. OR a toe tapper. This is when it counts. A HPF gets rid of the obvious stuff, but not the smaller higher frequency residuals of vibrations, and that colors everything. The HPF has large phase shift, the shock doesn't. Sayin'

A bit smaller logo was my original thought as well. Or a vintage color scheme, red on gold/cream kind of thing could be cool.
But of course, sonics is what I'm most concerned about..
Anxiously waiting for some samples/shootouts

Is this thread being cleaned up or posts deleted? If so can a little context be added please cuz I’m a little confused. Everyone seems to be cordial & genuinely excited about this mic imo. Is Tim making a 251 mic in the same price category as Heiserman? ( know he makes a wonderful ck12 capsule idk about mics ) If Dolly is the goal sound why are you wanting more scooped sound? What does it mean to reject a mic? How do you reject 7 out of 8 251’s? Why is the sound varying so much w/ this mic? So many questions so many rejects ( the mics not you guys ) I'm going to respond to the question that came from my post regarding rejecting seven out of 8 251's. When we started recording Golden Hour we were at Sheryl Crow's studio and she owns a very nice Telefunken 251. After working at Sheryl's studio we worked at House of Blues, Sound Emporium and at my personal studio called The Great Gazoo Reading Room. We couldn't get ahold of Sheryl's mic so we rented and borrowed all of them we could find in Nashville. Only one of them sounded as good as Sheryl's mic that we started with. It wasn't a perfect match, but close enough that we could use it to punch in on previous takes and nobody noticed a difference. I guess my point was that these mics do vary quite a bit and that I am somewhat familiar with the family resemblance among vintage 251's.

There’s a shootout with the two here on this site. Preach! The BB favorite is my second Favorite. Agreed. That is the mic I used on Kacey. I was very surprised that I preferred Dolly. I think the BB mic has been re-skinned with thinner mylar. Still a very good sounding mic, but less original.

People seem to think of the ELA M251's as one mic like something punched with a cookie cutter. As we have shown on other threads, just the tube can have huge consequences on the sound. The 251 shipped with 2 VERY different tubes, the AC701 and the GE 6072a. The 2 models do not sound the same and almost any tube replacement will change the timbre of the mic. I have had examples of this mic on my bench with 3 different CK12 variants, very early shallow resonator types, mid period early large resonator types and even late replacement red lacquer 414EB types. These 3 capsule types do not sound the same. And then there is the element of wear and tear and maintainence over time. These mics were only produced from 1959 until 1962 and I believe at the most only 3000 were produced because actually they were not that popular, especially in europe. They were made to replace the U47 in Telefunken's catalog and we all know they don't do that well.

Unless it was a B*$*%nger That was usually because of the fact it was DOA or the fact that DOA would have been a far better tone.
