I have tried all the variants and I still think nothing beats a good sounding GE5 star 6072 if you can still find one. I have heard some EH that sound good but I worry about their longevity. The JJ's sound like 12ax7's to my ear. RCA 6072's don't even sound like the same tube and many JAN's are boring. Restoring RCA consoles here required modern EH's as the quantity is so large. Save those RCA originals for the well-financed who can afford them for their RCA pre's. I wonder what was put in Altec pre's with 6072's? If they mixed it up based on price and supply?

EmRR Doug, you just have to keep scouring the net for tube sellers and collect reserve stock, bit by bit. There's more than enough tubes out there for all of us . . . theyre just getting spendier all the time. So act sooner rather than later.

I didn’t do that. Must be some other badass dude you’re thinking of. Maybe it was indiehouse This is the MK67 conversion I did, complete with a U67 black ring label, silver body tube, black badge, an old school swivel mount, Neumann BV12 transformer, NOS output capacitor, Bowie selected Telefunken EF86, Klaus Heyne tuned capsule and an old tweed suitcase I modded into a mic case. I also might rehouse the PSU in an old school style mic PSU case that I have.

First, this is badass, guys. Killer looking mic. Is it possible to request one without the mic badge? I mean no offense, just preference. Also, is there a return/demo policy?

SNIP . . . Bowie selected Telefunken EF12, . . . SNIP [/div][/quote] Just curious . . . why would you use an EF12 in a U67 clone? I'm sure there's a reason, I would just like to know what it is, please.

My life is pretty nuckin' futs right now, surprised I remember how to tie my shoes most days. That and I just had my U47 clone out at the same time, which uses an EF12.

The conversion with the proper BV12 makes this mic a monster. This looks great. At some point I’d love the swivel mount. I have also debated converting the psu. It’s not necessary, but ..... <3 lol.

To answer (Eric will be the final decider tho..) I doubt we will sell an unbranded mic. The badge on my prototype unit is from the models we use on the H47 lines and I have discussed with Eric about a different look for this model but we haven't finalized that yet. Eric and Matt can answer about the return policy, but with the H47tube i know we have a return window. -Dave

The aesthetics of the mic and swivel mount on the H251 in the OP look very nice.
While I appreciate EmRR's valid point earlier on shock mounts, I too like the swivel mounts. Did you notice any sonic differences Indie when using your vintage swivel mount cable on your 67 compared to the cable that came with it?

Well someone from this shootout might have an observation since some mics had shockmounts, some didn't.

Is that Pearlman, Peluso, Bock down at the far end there? I have no idea what I'm looking at. I see one mic without a shockmount. Since I'm guessing here, I'd guess any of those mics could get a high pass filter in the mix, which might clear any foot stomps or plane crashes coming through the ground.

Is that shade being thrown? It’s hard to tell. Hmm.
Believe it’s L-R Dolly, Blackbird, Upton, Waves Proto, Kirby, AA, Warm

My Upton didn’t have a shock mount. I thought it fared really well.

Hey all,
The Heiserman 251 will come with a Heiserman badge.. like Dave mentioned we may change the look... I personally am on the fence. If you don’t like the badge you can pull it I guess.. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Eric

Is it odd that I am looking past the mics in the pictures and putting googly eyes on the bass traps in the corner?

If you don’t like the badge you can pull it I guess.. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Eric That's just plain crazy talk!! The only thing i would suggest is merely a slightly smaller version of the lovely H. The T-Funk badge on the U47 original was bigger than the T-Funk badge on the 251, if memory serves me correctly from being allowed to handle both of them at the same time a couple of years back. Granted, it was an early Telefunken U47. In any case, a smaller H badge would be lovely. and out of the way of the shockmount grips too, please. But this is minutia! All hail the AMAZING STUPENDOUS OUTSTANDING FABULOUS FANTASTIC HEISERMAN ELA H251 ! !

Maybe try something more vintage on the vintage inspired models and the current logo your original designs?

It’s also me knowing that a nice mic needs a nice space to show what it can do. Amazing how much better I can track stuff now since I made taming my room a priority before I bought any really nice mics.

Is it odd that I am looking past the mics in the pictures and putting googly eyes on the bass traps in the corner? Shane McConnell makes those. I think jsteiger has contact info if you want it.

And more importantly, I'm totally with you on the googly eye adornments. I may do some of that, myself.
