I don’t understand why they limit the plugins on the list. Who cares what people get? It’s already coded. It’s not like they have to build more Neve compressors. Just let people pick whatever. Because wherever we can, we pay royalties to the companies of the gear we model. So they can get paid for all their hard work. It's the right thing to do. Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Makes sense, Drew. Although this means the list will always be this "basic". Btw, why the UA 175B and 176 are not in the list?

It's a factor, not the factor.

I think this is still a good deal for new users, as it’s your best price?
When it’s on sale the 10 bundle is $1,000, normally , or 50% off is normally about as good as a UA sale gets.
Sure, I’d prefer to pick , depends what you want, so my recent x6 plus 10 bundle was around $3200, so more money but for that premium I get to pick my 10?

My next move will be a used Apollo X, no real benefit in paying more for what I already have.

I’m surprised UAD didnt stockpile a very key part of their interfaces. Still confused on the $400 price increase.
Instead UAD could: 1.) drop plugin prices. 2.) Port/ Go native. 3.) Charge for Luna. ( $99 my rec ) 4.) Offer a subscription model. 5.) Offer Apollo purchasers a $600 add on for a 1 year sub to the whole UAD catalog. 6.) UAD3 hybrid engine 7.) Bundle satellite w/ Apollo Many times I’ve had a $50 ( rarely $100 ) voucher but the UAD bundle i want is still $249// $299 / $199 after it. The UAD sales model makes most UAD plugin customers wait for the summer & holiday sales or get a custom bundle when purchasing.
I don’t see a newbie or new pro audio customer spending $1400+ For a 2 in 4 out twin quad + more $ for the plugins.

It’s probably too late for UA to start a subscription model. I agree that the 400 dollar price increase is a little steep. Even all factors considered, if I was just getting in the game for a higher end interface, that 400 dollars up front would probably push me into a different interface. But who knows....UA has fantastic marketing.

For those wondering.... we've had to re-engineer products due to this. This means basically doing everything needed when you launch a product from scratch. Dev cycles, testing grids, evals, etc. This is not trivial, but we have an amazing team and are on it.

My prediction: UA will re-engineer the Apollo conversion around a different chip, with better specs. They will release the new Apollo as a next gen interface and keep the Heritage pricing.

I said offer not force What doesn’t work for you may work for others. Slate sub has done really well. I am not a fan of subscriptions but I’m also not a fan the current price increase so was offering ideas.

Quint an interesting scenario, 21 is sort of the refresh year based on previous interactions , but on UA forum site the other day drew implied, a new apollo is not imminent?

If you are looking for std Apollo, check this from UA forum:
@if that is the case, at least for US customers, Perfect Circuit has non heritage Apollos in stock right now, and are running a 10% off promotion with no tax and free shipping ($1619 for the x4). “

A fine time I picked to go ITB with UAD and Luna .... but luckily I have pretty much all the plugins I want and 2 BF Apollos ... for the moment i am using the funds from selling my hybrid summing gear to fund quality preamps/compressors/eq to get things great on the way in. But I have to say .. I am totally committed to Luna and it nearly has all I need already in version 1.x
My studio partner is going to set up a home rig to collaborate from lockdown and I did tell him prices of Apollos are not going to be soft in 2021.
I was certainly planning to upgrade the main studio interfaces in 2022 .. so I hope the situation has recovered/stabilised by then ... in whatever form.
I assume the re-engineering of the Apollos will not necessarily mean "new" Apollos .. rather .. V2 X Apollos with different chip implementations ... cue a purple site thread with people arguing over the relative merits of each :-D

That is really tough assignment. I wish you guys all the best with that it’s going to be quite difficult. Let alone the endless endless back and forth it’s going to evolve around the X series with AKM converters versus whatever you end up using. Combine that with the fires you guys just went through it’s going to be very tough I honestly wish you all the best.

Was AKM the mfr of the A to D chips used in all Apollos? Do all mk2 & X Apollos use the ESS Sabre DAC? Re: Apollo AKM vs new chip Apollo I can see see a 100 page GS thread w/ lots of moderation! Hoping this will turn out to be a positive for UAD & us Apollo users.

This makes sense now. Didn’t realize these were based around a new chip set. Should be interesting to hear the comparisons between the two x’s.

There is an opportunity here for the x mkii to sound even better: more detail and linear, even though the X mki sound very good already !

Chase the X all had the same AD, while the x16 had the top of the line DA.

Chase the X all had the same AD, while the x16 had the top of the line DA. Just on the main stereo output though, right? All the line outs have the same DA as all the other interfaces?
