Ah, I just compress the individual drums, maybe a faster compressor on the whole kit to put it in place spatially, and crush a room mic or fake room send. I never parallel crush the whole kit for whatever reason. RMS raising? I don’t remember why I don’t. Well, it's honestly just out of naivete on my part most likely...Everybody has their workflows...it's hard to break me out of one - then I try it and immediately it becomes part of the process. The cymbals can get phasey with a Zener in parallel, so sometimes I'll just leave the OH and Room out...but most productions, I don't even do parallel. Yeah the parallel knob cymbals vs the eqed parallel send cymbals. I just forget why I do things a certain ways. I low pass the room crush at 3 to 5 kHz to get rid of the phasey hash.

Has anyone here ever tried that Sound Radix plugin called "Drum Leveler"? I've been wondering about that thing. Lately, my drums have all been Superior Drummer, so I haven't needed anything as dramatic as Drum Leveler appears to be capable of, but I've been curious. I like the UI. I demo'd it when it came out and couldn't really gel with it, but that was years/workflows ago so I don't really trust that impression much. I use it on individual tracks to even out uneven hits, mostly snare and kick. I love it, I prefer it to compression, to me it sounds more natural. I don't use it on the drumbus though.

Good old Waves L2 here. I just tickle it a db or so. Too much reduction and it destroys the signal.

A few harder rock and punk things lately I've put on Stillwell Bombardier set 50% parallel low ratio slow attack fast release, into DP's Masterworks Limiter to shave the strays.

I’ve found it most helpful when a drummer hits inconsistently or overall too soft. It has really saved a couple of projects I mixed without having to lean too heavily on samples. I use it on my own bad drumming :-) I use it morefor bringing up weak hits than limiting loud ones though.

D-COMP sounds like it could work VERY well for your required parameters and workflow.... and what do ya know...... 😉

I’m not CLA w/ a L1 on every DAW output to converter to SSL console Buttttt I do love me some L1.. parallel crushes, insert smashes, “ adding / enhancing “ overtones/ harmonics or sniping off a few dB on snare.
And it’s two sliders ( the GUI not mini burgers )
I have also use two before in parallel ( w FF C2 ) to get a smashed master I blended back in with the main master to achieve solidarity on the low end & excitement in the mids while smashing to achieve a nice RMS.
