Well my MacBook Pro M1 came early yesterday. It was supposed to arrive on the 22nd and it came on the 16th. Whoohoo! I have done a complete clean install of a everything. I think this is the best way to go with the new Mac OS and ARM chip. I must say I am very pleased with the performance and stability. It is major leap forward!. So here's the scoop, Luna seems to be running much better than it did on my Intel MBP. It doesn't even feel like it's a 1.X version any more. As a matter of fact it is running much better than Pro Tools 2020.11 did on the Intel chip. Pro Tools is working ok as long as you weed out the problem plug-ins for Big Sur and M1. So here are the plugins that are working great on my M1 even though they are NOT supported. Waves 12, Native-Instruments Ultimate, Softube, 109 UAD plugins, Fabfilter, Sonnox, Eventide, IK Multi media, Sonimus, TownsendLabs, Antares NOT Auto Key though, Melodyne, SSL, and East West Play. The only plugins that wouldn't even install are, Slate Digital SSD 5, Nugen Plugins, PSP, and Air Instruments and effects. I have many more plugins but theses are the ones I actually use. I have been testing sessions in Luna 1.1.3 with UAD version 9.13.1, Pro Tools and Logic for the last 20 or so hours and I must say as expected Logic runs the best with Luna coming in second. I have Logic Pro running in native mode and the plugins I guess are running in Rosetta 2 but unlike some early reviews I have not had any problems leaving it in native mode. I must say this is the most powerful computer I have ever owned and I have had plenty. From self built PC's to the Mac Pro Toaster and the Mac Pro Trash Can. My most recent computer was a mid 2020 MacBook Pro which was a nice machine but night and day with the new M1 Macs. I could not get the fan to come on at all with the M1. It idles around 29C and at 63C at full load for hours and this is with the monitor software looking at the highest thermal temp on any chip. The highest CPU was lower. This computer has a lot of power and with 16Gb of ram I didn't even have to keep my eye on the usage. I just when to work! I updated Big Sur to 11.1 and so far it has been my best experience with a new point 1 OS release. If you take your time installing and do your research before hand as I have done it will greatly reward you. The only thing I have not done yet is backup to Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner but I will before the night is over. Well I hope this help some of you guys on the fence of decision making. Also I forgot to mention the web cam even though it is still at 720p works alot better with headphone spacial plugins like the Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 plugin. I don't even need the Bluetooth tracker any more and it stays locked in on to my head movements and I can now set it and forget it.“
