Available these days than NI Maschine? Haven’t really followed it for a while but I was considering getting something with more pads than the 16 on the Micro I have.

And has anyone gone from Mashchine 2 to mk3? They claim the sensitivity is better.

I've always heard the Maschine had some of the better feeling pads.
Never used one, I have an old Akai MPD32 with upgraded pads that I use.
Presonus has some new ones you could look at Atom is the series.

Well the Roland electronic kits can be pretty nice, but somehow I suspect that's physically larger than what you're looking for. They do speak MIDI though. Only problem is that you need to learn to play drums.....

Check these out - Presonus Atom or SQ2 www.presonus.com/products/ATOM-Pad-ControllersI know you are using ProTools. Presonus claims Atom is a good cross platform performer, but i left ProTools and have been on Studio One Professional and these controllers integrate beautifully with Studio One. If you go with SQ2 it is only compatible with the latest Studio One 5 software. Not sure if SQ2 is compatible with other DAW's. It's so new I haven't had a chance to fully research it.

Quality of the pads?
Maschine MK3 or Akai MPC Live or One. Both have excellent pads, while they feel different.
To use plugged into a PC, Maschine MK3 is by far the better one.
If you want more pads, like a 8x8 grid. Akai Force.
