I really might have to buy that UK Pop EZX...going through and listening, that's my favorite... I went to check out the UK Pop EZX demo expecting some phil collins thunder, but came out of it with modern pop wetness. Still good, but such a let down for me haha. I was gonna write the next Easy Lover for a minute there.

That brings me into superior drummer... I assume that it's worth it vs using EZDrummer 2 exclusively for years? You get a free SDX right now if you buy, which is a great deal if you get that $179 Hansa room..

I don't see a free SDX when you buy SD3. Looks to me like you get a free MIDI pak. So, a bunch of useless pieces of shit. Cool. Their MIDI is generally SO bad.....there's not much bonus--aren't those like $15 anyway? I looked it up, because I'm over the moon with Kramer's SDX. That would absolutely be "the one" that adds the most to the Core, which I do NOT agree with so many here--I think are fabulously recorded MODERN SOUNDING flat nice drums. This gets a slightly more vintage recording vibe and all vintage kit pieces in AIR.
I couldn't uninstall Hansa from the fast expensive drive fast enough. The other two got shipped off to slower disks, but I don't think Hansa is even installed anymore. Just on my backup drive. Kramer will likely push Bob Rock to it, too. That tea towel kit in Schmidtt's is my funnest jam kit. that 70gb or whatever will stay just for that and the brush kit....

It's just the cross grade, which means I'm spending 500 with an sdx, and nobody who listens to music cares that much, tbh. Ezd2 does just fine until I'm making 5-6 figures a song. Which will be never

My only complaint about the stock/core library has always been the gigantic room. I think the drums themselves sound lovely, I just can't deal with the perma-cathedral. I can get rid of some of it with some envelope shaping, but it's too much of a battle for me to want to deal with (usually) when there's so many other great drum sounds for SD that don't have that cathedral glued to everything. But if you're into the room, I think the stock library is great.

Taste difference. Also workflow difference. I'm judging the raw drum samples, which I decide on and commit to as audio first thing. Also, since Hansa was as big as Decades and the Core together, yet I didn't think "added" anything...it was an easy call. Part of it was that it was really like 4 rooms with one kit per room, and an alt snare...so, it didn't lend itself to finding the right snare for the song--you HAD to use one of those two, or use their terrible Xdrum machanism and remap and balance bleed levels...so, that was easy. At least I "got" what they were doing with Bob Rock--it "added" processed smacky rock drums with a more roomy room than the core. There's a size of room--the Core is actually pretty dry sounding in a mix, BECAUSE the room mics are SO big/distant...it's like natural reverb, instead of ambience.
Decades and Legends will stay on my SSD after I finish this project. Really for the Core, I built "my kit" (the Premiere with Ayotte snare) that I used for this last album...and I don't think I could build a lot of different great kits. I pretty quickly found the best stuff. Decades and Legends are more my kindred--meaning I can basically use most of the kits in either for the range of my work--the Core I had to truffle pig a lot to find "my kit". If it won't give me trouble to remove it--I likely will.
Obvi--YMMV.
Earlier in the thread someone brought up Sound City--BFD Jim Scott Drums. THey were too "rock smacky" like the Bob Rock for me...but, it's been done.
Both Platinum Samples website looking dead and the fact that you can't BUY BFD2 (and the v3 engine sounds different)...says it's not that good of a choice. But, I mean--it's been done well.

Damn this thread...I realized that I'd probably never use the Core kit over Decades&Legends...and I thought "these songs aren't released--the MIDI tracks are somewhere...why not reprint them NOW?" Whether it's worth it or not...is debatable...but...just fader up...and "my default" kit in Decades (which has all internal DSP off) has blindly beaten the recorded Core Premiere kit 2 out of 2 times. Ehh...is this how I spend my weekend?

No...damn this thread for setting my mind to thinking about such things...making me actually take finished rhythm tracks and see what the Decades and Legends kits sound like on them...potentially making a bunch of work for myself for some extra little sompin' sonically. Or not....because I really have to DO the work to do real apples to apples comparison.

Hey just a heads up that there are several SDX expansions on GS classifieds right now. There’s also an SD3 license paired with three SDXs (including the Eddie Kramer one) for sale. Good deal if anyone is in the market.

ragan - what kit are you using in Decades? I use 70s Tight Pop, 70s Soul and 80s Rock and Fusion. I don't do big band or anything like that so the other kits I never use, but I get a lot of mileage out of those three, replacing individual drums and cymbals and tuning things to taste.

Toontrack doesn't make it as easy as companies like Arturia, but have a look at this:
I usually buy/sell licenses on KVR, though I have occasionally transferred licenses on this forum.
