Here’s looking at you, ragan, Johnkenn, wiz. Or any others. SDXes: You guys still digging the Rock Warehouse? What about Al Schmitt Decades? Rooms of Hansa? I need some good, warm sounds that weren’t recorded in comically big rooms. (Ahem, Massenberg) I’m not opposed to EZXes, either. Any thoughts on Southern Soul, Traditional Country, UK Pop, Alt-Rock, Seventies Rock? I’ve got a number of older expansions, but really haven’t explored much of the newer stuff. Thanks guys!

I like the kits in southern Soul, and traditional country of those you listed the best. I have UK pop and Seventies Rock as well. I haven’t really messed with those two as much.
I also have been just using the presets and their stereo mixes so far. I haven’t been exporting single tracks or changing effects all that much.

Yeah I still really like Hansa. And if you need big rooms, that Messerfjfksksb room is huge.

Heh - I *don’t* need more big rooms. Seems like most TT rooms are large.

I really like the new Latin Cuban Drums.
For many styles and genres, actually.

Ahhh. It does that too. The live room and vocal booth are really cool. That being said, I’d still love to know what the Decades one sounds like.

None. They lost me as a customer when I missed the upgrade deadline and are asking me to pay full price for SD3. I went from dfh to SD2 and have 2 SDX's and 3 EZX's. They don't respect my previous investment. So, I'm done.

Still liking Hansa here. I have not even tried to mess with the stock sounds yet.

Hey Mark. I have long enjoyed Indiependent for warm, dry sounds. There's also a good tea-towel kit in Custom and Vintage. There's an awesome pretty dry kit in UK Pop and a couple in Southern Soul that I like. Decades is probably my favorite though. It's lovely. You can get dry-ish sounds out of the Massenburg stuff if you play with the envelopes. I've actually gotten a couple of nice, dry kits that way. But it's not my first reach. I also just don't like the way Massenburg mic'd the kicks though so it's often a deal breaker for me. There's good stuff in the above mentioned kits though. TT has "drums only" demos at the bottom of the product pages and you can scroll through clips of all the kicks and snares. That Custom Shop package seems to have some nice dry stuff too (though I don't have that one).

Nashville EZX, even in SD3 is probably my favorite all-rounder. I find I can get usable sounds for just about anything I do with it, not just country (which I don't do).

Well , for the last record I just used the standard sounds... I ended up making a preset... I used that on each song. If you like the drum sounds, happy to send it to you.
I bought DECADES and haven't used it. I am just happy with the kit I built.
I keep meaning to get right into it, and build the "perfect kit" but honestly, I am enjoying just getting on with it.
Cheers
Wiz

As a rock and modern punk rock / pop punk guy, the John Feldmann pack is great. There is a Feldmann 'The Knife' preset that I put on and it was like "hey, this is it". For a more open one, they've got a roomy goodness preset that gets a more open flow 90's rock feel. I also really like the sizzle on the prototype hi-hat. I still think there's a lack of a great sidestick. Maybe one day...

I decided to try the drumsound expansion pack on a few tunes that I am getting ready to work really hard on. I know it’s a little more expensive but hopefully also a lot more realistic sounding.

Did anyone ever try the Colin Richardson EZmix pack? If so, is it more 1991 or 2001?

Using Hansa Marble Room Twin Shell kit right now, pretty much at default settings with the ambiance pulled down some. But the band says the snare on my last mixed kit with 4(!) stacked snares is better, so we'll see. The SDX Rabbit Hole is wide, and deep. You can lose yourself in there. I've built kits that use 12 gigs of ram, it's nutty.

I heard Indie was good. Progressive looks impressive. Hansa looks cool. What other sdx packs are you liking?

It hasn't really been mentioned yet... but dont judge it by the cover. I work heavily on indie rock, commercial country, soul and pop. The Progressive Foundry SDX is not only incredible value (like 16 snares alone...) but every single piece of the various kit options I find incredibly well captured and useful! It's what the stock SD3 library SHOULD have been (imho). To add with all the options in there its very diverse, theres some deeper snares, meaty snares, snappy, etc. and several flavours of kick. That said it wont get you the motown thuddy dry and dead drums.

Can somebody make a pack in sound city already? How many records have that sound in the vox factory - perfect drums room. Neve console would have been great, but anything to attempt to capture that. I need to stop chasing the Pinkerton drum sound already
