HA-81A British-Spec Hybrid Channel Strip Introducing Heritage Audio’s HA-81A: a new mix of 2 classic consoles. The HA-81A is a channel strip that combines an all discrete, Class-A 73-style mic preamp with the highly desirable 81-style equalizer — arguably the most in-demand products for all recording engineers. The HA-81A’s preamp section is an 80 dB, all discrete Class-A design with Carnhill and St. Ives input and output transformers. To put it simply, it’s an exceptional Heritage Audio take on the famous 73-style preamplifier. The preamp features gain, output trim, -20db pad, polarity reverse, and +48v phantom power. The HA-81’s equalizer section is an exceptionally musical 4 band, inductor-based equalizer with high and low pass filters. Where 3 band equalizers such as the typical 73-style exceed at musicality but may get short of features, the HA-81A EQ equally excels on both. Extreme control over Shelf or Bell response curves on the high and lows, dual Q on both mid bands, with dedicated high and low mid ones, and a range of 30 frequency selections to choose from. The Heritage HA-81A utilizes only rotary switches and precision, concentric potentiometers. And like all of the products in our Elite range, the HA-81A is built with the most cutting edge methods in manufacturing and design, without ever compromising audio quality or cutting corners — all at the Heritage headquarters in Spain. There you go. Nice move! Though I will never get used to what I regard as the backwards layout of the EQ. I know it’s the most common layout for Neve EQs, but it always feels backwards to me. Takes me out of the moment.

Power supply older style wall wart style. Is this a 24 volt system? Will my Gsp ps4 unit power this ? Ugh, I just noticed that. I cannot overstate how sick I am of external boxes. Being a huge Daking fan, I have so many bricks jammed into the back of my rack. Worth it, but it drives me insane. At any rate, this thing looks rad.

Looks interesting, especially at that price. I also would have preferred an internal PSU, like my BAE 1028 have, but those are about four times the Heritage price. Funny that it doesn't even appear on the Heritage website. Must be really new

I've been running the HA 80 Series version (8173) of these for five years based on the original Neve component topology with regard to capacitor types etc.

Surprised no one has brought this up on here yet. Cool hybrid Mic pre/EQ from Heritage audio. Basically an 1073A mic pre with a 1081A EQ. vintageking.com/heritage-audio-ha-81aPretty cool I think.

I remember there were pages and pages of opinions on the earlier Heritage Elite releases so I'm watching out for reviews on this. The price is right and takes up half the space of the AML 81's (which I love). Looking at the photos I'm guessing the mic and line inputs share a transformer?

Hmmm. That non-captive PSU connector will keep anyone from putting it in a touring or remote recording rack.

My pair arrived last week. Amazingly, I seem to have snagged serial #’s 0001 and 0002. Unfortunately, I have a studio rebuild ahead of me after our move in March. Will not have any testing of these for the next month for sure. .

I’d like to know how it compares to some of the other popular 1073 clones.
