Burning down 16 and 24 bit versions of files for a guy and want to keep them the same name like "Down By The River." So the metadata doesn't say "Down By The River - 16bit" or whatever. Am I going to have to buy a mastering DAW? Pro Tools wants me change the name when burning more than one with the same name.

They would both be a .wav file with the same name. Guess I could bounce the 24 bit as wav and the 16 as aiff.

You can just change the name after you burn the file from wherever you send your bounces to. Pro tools doesn’t allow you to put metadata in wav files anyway - only the MP3’s (as far as I know)
When I send files to clients they get a master folder, then inside they get 3 seperate folders. One with the full res file size, one with 44.1/16, and a third with high quality MP3’s or whatever else they ask for along with instrumentals etc etc etc. That way it’s all neatly organized and nobody has a question as to which one they are using.

I don't know about protools but I usually append 1644 or 2488 to the beginning or end.
If you can't save them as a specific name, can you rename them one at a time as you render?

There is no issue in doing that with PT. I think Johnkenn's challenge is the client doesn't want that in the file names, for some asinine reason. . . unless I have that wrong. For me, I'd name the Shift-command-k exported files as: Down_By_The_River.Vocal1.1648.wav meaning song name, part, but rate and sample rate and then file format. and so forth . . .

Just ad "16" or "24" to the file names to keep things organized on your end, and let the client rename them to whatever the hell they want.

Just ad "16" or "24" to the file names to keep things organized on your end, and let the client rename them to whatever the hell they want. Apparently, if you upload to cdbaby, and it’s burned down as xx1.wav or xx24.wav...and then just renamed xx.wav, they will still show up with the 16 and 24.
