I got a cheap set of JBL LSR 6332 I need an amp for. I have about 600$ for this. What I am thinking is I can get two cheap amps ie. Behringer inukes or used crowns. The two amps would be to bi amp the speakers. Or I can get an Adcom gfc 555. I need to know if any has run the jbls with cheaper amps and what was the result.

You should check out the amps Svart was talking about building and selling over in the DIY forum.

I use a Behringer A500 with my LSR32 pair. I've also got the sub to go with them. I feel like if I pushed any more juice to the tops, the sub wouldn't keep up.

I’m not a huge class D fan personally, but a Modded Adcom GFA555 can play with the big boys. The Only Crown QSC or other PA brand I would recommend is the Reference and that would be out of your budget. I would rather have the clearer tone and speed of an Adcom top to bottom than the crossover advantages of Biamping, in fact playing around with Biamping is a great way to kill a bunch of mid range drivers if you don’t know what your doing and JBL recones are never cheap. I have heard the original version of the original JBL LSR 3 ways with QSC switching PA amp, Hafler studio Amp and a Krell KST that JW Modded 555 look like a very pretty expensive door stop. Each step up was like buying better speakers. QSC big but cloudy, Hafler Clear but thin. Krell big ballsy clear fast voice range had body a slight edge you would only notice if you spent way more on amps.
So buy an Adcom series I, listen for a bit Send it to Audio Upgrades and learn why I smile every time a friend spends the kind of money normal people spend on used cars on Amps bring their new toys over. I keep thinking I should replace the face plates on my JW Adcoms, just so Audiophiles don’t bring any price bias when they see them.

My first set is a pmc tb2+ and B&k 200.2. Which is why my budget is so low for the amp for the jbls. I have been trying out the jbls with the B&k amp and thought it lacked low end. It was the same way when I was playing the PMCs. It felt like they were out of phase. I was comparing the low end with the bm5a I have. The bm5a had more impact than both the pmc and jbls. The jbls got closer as I turned them up. This is what lead me to think that I should try and bi amp the jbls.

I had a B&K many, many years ago, their whole thing was that they were providing the tube sound in solid state form and at a reasonable price. They kind of did, by emphasizing everything bad about tube amps, don’t miss it one bit.

Both bought used on Audiogon. I was really surprised to hear how different the same set of speakers sounded when driven by different amps. The Adcom sounds really, really good when matched to the right speaker. I suspect the JW mod would make it even better. That said, you might also look at the Yamaha M series amps. Both brands can be had used for within your budget.

Ok so here’s what I ended up doing. I got an unmodded Adcom 555. The issue is it does not have enough power. The jbls were not matching the output of the small focal cms50 given the same input. I picked a new crown xls 1500. It matches levels and sounds pretty clean. I got the crown for 300 so I picked up another to run my PMCs.
