Simple question . . . What is "Minimalist zen differential circuit topology".
Is the compressor a buddhist? I'm cool with that, if it is, but just wondering.

Practical question . . .
Expected street price? $600?
Most of their gear at Sweetwater sells for 340-600.

Technical question . . . What are they using for compression? A tube? they mention a Nixie Tube but what would that be for? Is it a true optical and uses something spun off an electro-optical sensor unit like a T4? (I'm just full of questions this morning)

I think a lot of those phrases are tongue in cheek.
The price will be closer to 8-900 if I remember correctly.
As for the gain reduction, it’s something new that Dave Amels came up with. The LL2A is just that gain reduction element and a minimal signal path borrowed from the Monotor.

If it was really new, you’d think they’d patent it.

I'm going to come up with a simple mono VCA compressor and call my product the Fairchild 671

Tons of value. Patents aren’t that expensive (a few thousand dollars) and if this really is a new way to slice bread reverse engineering it isn’t that difficult. I doubt they rolled their own IC. Patent gives you marketing material and a lockout of copycats.

Patent gives you marketing material and a lockout of copycats. You've certainly read John Roberts thoughts on this, he would disagree after a lifetime of playing that game. I see his points. So much 'prior art', even if something is especially inventive. So many ways to work around one, or have one invalidated, or not even know the competition is in violation. Weigh the risks/values. Can you afford enforcement? May be low expectation of sales #s. Who wants clean unobtrusive hardware these days? Almost no one.

Im more interested in it for marketing value than anything else. Enforcement is mostly by dissuading, but really if someone willfully infringes you get treble damages. A few grand seems like a cheap investment to me. for something like this I wouldn’t think it’d cost more than $2000. Shrug, just my opinion. The real guess I had though is it probably isn’t all that novel. No disrespect intended at all by that either - just very little juice left in the analog squeeze, I think.

I'm just not sure about the form factor. If only there were a similarly sized modular format that was widely available and operated near their 16.5v requirement.

I think the nixie tube relates to the Led VU panel.

I'm going to come up with a simple mono VCA compressor and call my product the Fairchild 671 ...and recommended by the Baetles! That's hilarious. I was thinking about taking the Fairchild 671 to the "next level." Use the simplest possible THAT integrated circuits to come up with something kind of basic. Put it in a giant 4U black panel heavy deep case. Needless depth, lots of empty space. HUGE bakelite stove knobs on the front, maybe a VU meter that works. I wonder if "gear trolling" is a thing? Maybe not as a business but just for fun. The closest I can think of is Funk Logic. Maybe some of the audiophile products, but those are more of a scam. The Behringer 501 is definitely somewhere on this spectrum. That's the $15,000 mic preamp they sell. Not joking.

Make sure to run some 12AX7s at 15V or so in your 671. I thought Behringer wasn’t allowed to make anything that cost over $299? Whether an 16 voice analog synth ....or preamp.

Just to clear a few things up. It’s not an opto compressor. And the price is closer to 800-900. This info is from conversations with Jonathan. I’ve owned several Little Labs products and have called them up a few times.
I’m excited to hear this compressor, just because of the comments from others.

Based on feedback, info, the manual...it appears to be an "invisible person, transparently pushing faders". Two things: Thing 1: There are other, inexpensive compressors that do this: - Safe Sound Audio: P1, Dynamics Toolbox - Aphex unit (expressor??), & others
Thing 2: This seems like functionality that could easily be done with software.
I'm looking forward to hearing it.
