It’s the lowest price I saw referenced in a glance through the GS thread about it. Not sure if it was more discounted during Black Friday or not. It’s the most I’ve spent on a plug-in in awhile but I’m doing final masters right now and I just couldn’t un-hear what it brings to the table.

All good, not saying it’s not worth it but not exactly a whim buy!

Damnit...I demo'd this and then had to pony up for it. It's really good. On sale through tomorrow FYI. Yeah, it's really damn good.

Oh, and to whom it may concern: Don't be afraid to lean heavily on the presets. There are a LOT of them, especially if you download bManic's extra preset pack (free). Unisum is so versatile with so many controls (esp. for the sidechain detector), that it really is OK to follow those who have spent weeks and months understanding it.

Hey guys and gals, do yourself a favor and demo the Unisum Mastering Compressor. Might be my favorite ITB compressor yet. No affiliation, just seriously impressed! Enjoy! Thanks for the head's up. Really great.

Couldn't agree more, this one goes deep! Tho in general feel like I understand compression better after learning and getting my head about the detection modes.

You'll see "Extra presets by bM (March 2021, 114 KB)".

Unisum rules. Wow. I will definitely purchase this sometime. The only problem is it's too complex for its own good. Hygge sounds way better than the Arousor's saturation but has less depth than Molot's and Presswerk's. The Weiss sounds like a trash can compared this.

the easter sale price is very tempting ... although i am shure that all those controls are to much for me and i would just start with presets and turn the to me known knobs to suit the song. haha. i have kotelnikov and limiter n. 6 with its compressors so i „guess“ i should be covered with good clean sounding compressors. so i am not shure if i should dare to demo unisum ...

Just demoing, comparing on mix bus: UA ampex 102 first,vs Manley vari ( turned off:)), followed by fab filter limiter.
First impressions with Unisum are that it seems subtle,in a very good way, sort of there and not there: controlling dynamics, bringing cohesion but very transparently?
Clicking through presets, similar feelings of a very refined compressor plug in, actually what you want for mastering.
Does this reflect other users’ experiences ?
Thx!

That's my dilemma, too. Just bought Kotelnikov so I might wait on Unisum, for now. Even though I obviously want to try it, hehe.

Caved: don't demo this, if you aren't prepared to buy ! Mind you, I had $135 usd sitting my PayPal account: so that made it easier !

Mind you, I had $135 usd sitting my PayPal account: so that made it easier ! i am rather disciplined when it comes to buying plugins. i never let the price decide but quality and if i already have something similar. but this seems to be really good plugin. BUT ... and this is a big „but“ i am no mastering engineer and presume i wouldnt be able to use it at its full potential. but than again, i am leaning more and more into mastering (my own stuff) and i want to learn and only use top plugins. ok ok i will demo it :-)

I don’t even keep that part of it open right now. Just using the standard controls (and the couple of slightly less standard like GR limit or release curve) that are on the main GUI is what knocked me out. I’ll read the manual and mess with the more complex stuff at some point but just using it as a traditional compressor is what impressed me enough to whip the wallet out.

theshea some other really nice clean comps to look at are TDR Kotelnikov, currently on sale for $24 at Plugin Boutique, and Jon V FirComp which is only $30 for the full version (V2). I'm going to buy Fir Comp V2 this week for sure. Both are "bargains" and first reach compressors at the same time.

For mastering, I use SPL Iron a lot. I’m still using that (in parallel) along with Unisum (also usually parallel). Iron isn’t squeaky clean, it’s kind of a biggerizer, but it functions that way for me and my workflow. I have also always liked the compressor in FG-X for clean mastering compression. I used that a lot until Iron came along. For mixbus, if I’m not using the Audioscape SSL, I really like The Glue. I also like the old Focusrite Red comp (this just reminded me I need to go grab that for my nee machine). Been awhile but I also liked Massey CT-5 for clean compression. I have FF Pro-C2 and want to like it more than I actually do. Sometimes it’s just the ticket for some tricky side chain stuff but I don’t use it for general utility comp.

I demoed this in the past, when I also had a stam 4k mki, a warm buss comp and an Audioscape ssl and wax using my Apollo x6, then the unisum, didn’t win me over.
Now, I have sold all those ob comps and am running the Aurora N and mostly UA and fab filter plug ins.
Like Ragan, I am finishing some tracks so listening pretty carefully, good time to demo a mastering comp.
I just demoed pre sets and the type, bottom left hand side button, then I compared to my non unisum track and preferred the unisum.
Better tools are not a waste, they help you to train your ears snd pick up your mixing game: go for it!

ragan: iron is my color comp. and kotelnikov my clean comp. than i have molotov (free) as an inbetweener/alternative and i am planning on using it more often. and as mentioned before i have limiter 6 as my mastering tool which also has good comp options. one thing i don‘t want is choice/plugin overkill. i don‘t do impulse buys. i don‘t want to buy unisum and than not using it. i will certainly demo it

I’m pretty judicious about adding (or not) arrows to my quiver too. I demo’d limiter 6 in the last couple of weeks too but it wasn’t a love match for me. Horses for courses and whatnot. Yeah, give Unisum a demo. Maybe it’ll grab you, maybe you’ve already got its niche covered. I just found it to be exceptional sounding, for mastering and else wise.
