We lost a really great guitarist. Bucky was the ultimate session player: reserved, tasteful, technically and musically superb. He played with many of the greats and left behind a musical family of his own--2 sons, a daughter and a daughter-in-law--all competent in their own right.
Along with George Van Eps, Bucky was a pioneer of the 7-string guitar. He could walk a bass line, play harmony and lead all at once.
Covid-19 is listed as cause of death, but Bucky had also reached the age of 94. You're lucky to get that far. If you don't know his playing, there are a couple of great introductions. He did a tribute album to Freddy Green (Basie's guitarist) and showed how to really play time. And he did a nice duet album with his son John. Thanksgiving must have been a treat in that neighborhood.

I didn't know his work before the obituary, unfortunately. Heavy hitter for sure. RIP Bucky!
