I logged into my UAD account to purchase a plug-in with my $50 off coupon and I don’t get a deal because of $1, the plug-in I want is $99. I have to buy another plugin to get the $50 off. New business practices that are definitely not working for the consumer. It never used to be this way. You used to be able to use your coupons regardless of the price.

These kinds of things keep me away from the UAD plug-in page. I wouldn't mind having the 176 and maybe the Capitol Chambers, but I have too many plugs of theirs I never use to spend good money on new ones I might never use after a while. If I could sell or trade-in, it would be much better. If for instance I "returned" my API compressor for say $100 credit toward a $249 plug-in, they'd get $149 instead of nothing.Once you've got 200 or more plug-ins, you just don't need many more unless it's special or a good deal.

Evidently, there are no more good deals. I’ve been waiting for a good promotion deal to score a few plugins I want, but it just never works out in my favor with the timing or model. This last promotion was ok with the satellite, but what happened to when you buy an interface you get your choice of a few plugins? Does this deal still exist?

UA stopped the registration deal but introduced the same desk under the bundles.
So, often you can order 3/399, etc., you just have to check the bundles in the UA store, but the have often jacked the price like now.

The problem with deals like the 3 for $399 when you buy a new interface is the time limit. If you've just barely scraped enough money together to upgrade from a blackface Apollo to the X6, as I did, there's no more there there for plug-ins. That deal should have no time limit. This way as soon as you can afford it, you get least one very good deal.

Trust me I get it. I’ve been a UA interface owner since the first Silverface came out, upgraded to Blackface. I’ve bought most my plugs with coupons attached when they had deals. I’m just waiting for a good deal to come along if I move up to the Apollo X. I was going to get that Satellite, but I would like to choose what plugins I want, not be forced to get ones I don’t want out of that other list, yes, I don’t want those either. I already have most of the ones that I want/use. I’ll just wait.

You are allowed substitutions, is it the case that you have none of the plugs offered so no substitutions ?

...I have too many plugs of theirs I never use .... You can hardly blame Universal Audio for that, right?

True, but still..they certainly could make some improvements of their plug-in policies.

Yes, but that goes for a lot of other plug-in companies too...

I will always look back fondly on the time I got the 1176 MKII bundle for $25. The good ol' days.

I think that a lot of this is due to their transitioning from being a hardware ourboard company that also did plugins to a company that makes most of their income from software and interface boxes.

Apparently UA is extending its 50% off sale:
Drew at ua forum today.
“We've decided to open the Custom Shop for everyone for the month, maybe more due to the health crisis.
These are deals that are typically only made available to users registering a new device.
Enjoy.“

I wish they'd offer a sizeable discount to people who already own the PA stuff. I'd like to have the UAD BX Masterdesk to get over these single core computing issues that pop up once in a while now that I've added the Lindell 80 channel on my pre-master(though I'm fast figuring out how to get similar results using the 737 in place of the Lindell). It's just silly to pay UAD $150+ for another Masterdesk when I just got the native one for $25. Today I was messing with the PA Purple MC77 and found a way to make it more suited to my SM7b-recorded vocal chains than the UAD 1176 Rev A or 176 that I had been using. I was able to get all the benefits while also getting the clarity that had been lacking using the UAD stuff. But the 176 was better on a slow track where the guy's voice was recorded on some $100 usb Audio Technica mic. The key with the MC77 was to turn the input up to get 10-20db of GR, adjust the output, and then leave the other stuff at default mainly. It's better at faster, louder vocal tracks. Organizes them better and doesn't let low bass frequencies jumble anything up even with HP off. The GR is pretty transparent. The transients seem to stay a lot more intact too. Also noticed that it makes the high notes stronger on some vocals. Maybe I'll figure out how to get the MC77 up there with it on the slow stuff today. Right now 176 is like the king of slow vocal compression for me. It allows the vocal to get really big, full, and wide.
UAD still has a lot of essential and unique stuff like the 224, 480(w/the Effects that Relab said they can't add), 737, Capitol, Ocean, 175/176, 1176, Helios, RMX 16, BX20, 102, Studer, still plenty of reasons to get into it along with the DSP. My Apollo should be here today and I'm hoping it will be as awesome as I've heard.

I have a $100 coupon about to expire (from friend referral)...and I can’t find anything I really want...which just means I’ve probably got all I want anyway. Well, there might be a few I’d want but they’re still be $100+. And of course, I can’t use that towards a bundle.

I'm debating getting the Oxford Inflator. For me it would be $89 right, now, which is pretty cheap for that plug. Always used to see a lot of the rock guys slapping that on the mix bus to add some instant energy.

First impression of the Apollo Twin Usb is that the headphone amp has more headroom and clarity than the ID14 and even more power. UAD doesn’t state what the output impedance on it is, but my guess is that it’s closer to O than the ID14’s 32. I’m sure that the 32 rating was contributing to the overly bassy sound when paired with my K701. The Apollo is closer to my Nwavguy O2 amp that is one of the only amps out there with any measurements.
In any event, it lets me hear things more accurately in terms of how they sound on the Bose consumer speakers I use to check things on. Translating takes less work. I’ve yet to try it with my LSR305 monitors. The build quality is really good too. I just noticed the other day that it came with Voxbox, autotune real-time access, pure plate, and galaxy tape echo. The page talking about this promotion is a little misleading because it doesn’t say you have to scroll way down just to find out you don’t get Oxide with certain products and that there are actually two versions of that autotune.
I’ll try out that recording aspect as soon as I can. Not so easy with everyone home all the time. The extra dsp will produce some interesting stuff. I was able to use the 737 to beat the Lindell 80 on that slow song I mentioned above. And I also got the two MC77 instances to equal or best what I did with the 176.

I am tempted with the 50% on a few things but I’m keeping my powder dry for when Luna comes and I want that Moog and the Ravel piano
