I’m curious about the tonelux Comp and eq, can anyone shed a light on them, and give us some info? I haven't tried the Comp, though I find it a bit scary with all those pots. I just tried the eq a couple weeks back. It sounds nice, very powerful eq, you can really sculpt drum sounds but I liked the general vibe of my Capi lc53s better, totally different sound as they're inductor eqs, the Capi tone is a little sweeter overall and more colored. I felt like I could get close to what the Tlux did with my fabfilter plugin. I sold my API 2500 because I preferred the Tonelux. All the features, but with better tone. Not easy to perfectly match if you need that though.

Paul Wolff designed both the 2500 and the Tonelux, so maybe he thought of some improvements on the 2500 and implemented them on the Tonelux. I really need to check out some Tonelux gear, especially since it goes for relatively cheap on the second hand market. But I have some trepidation as it seems like the new owner has been winding down the brand and company, or at least transitioning it. They discontinued a lot of products and the only newish product that I know of is a clone of a Sony mic.

I'm looking for a 500 compressor for my home rig. I already have an Igs LA2A clone, the limiter in the Tree Audio Branch, an Spl Dynamaxx. I'm covered opto wise for my small rig but I need something to catch peaks and sculpt drum sounds with a bit more flexibility. So variable attack/release is a must, mix knob is a plus! What are you guys rocking? thanks guys! I’ll second the CAPI FC526. Kind of exactly what you’re describing.

Your 526 vocal samples definitely got my attention, they sounded great, though seemed to be a lot cleaner than an 1176, not saying that's necessarily a bad thing. Have you used it on acoustic also? It's probably gonna be between the Capi and The Tlux, since unless a great deal comes along, the Splice is just out of my price range right now.

I just tracked all the acoustics on a new record through the CAPI. It's the original FC526, not the xfmr version, and I pick it for acoustic sources regularly. Also as the peak limiter in front of a slower compressor it's kinda perfect.

I suggested “Volume Monkey” to jsteiger...but alas, he ignored me. (Also wanted SumBitch for the summing unit). Anyway - yes - it’s fast as hell and to me is like the perfect fast, clean tracking comp. the xfmr model might be a little dirtier.

Nice! thanks guys! As much as I would love to also try the Splice I just can't afford it right now. The Capi is more than half the price over here in Europe. Plus I'll have my little CAPI tracking Channel strip , already have the 28 and the LC53!
